Acer iRhythm 900MHz Wireless Remote Tuner Review

Acer iRhythm 900MHz Wireless Remote Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before I begin, I must mention that the price point on this gadget is excellent. I was looking at a similar device that transmits audio from a PC to a remote stereo system but does not offer an integrated hardware/software remote solution and costs nearly twice as much.
Today I received my iRhythm tuner in the mail. I was at work so I didn't get to set it up right away, but I immediately popped the batteries in the remote and watched the remote's display light up blood red as it powered on. Way cool.
Upon getting home I was set to install this puppy. Honestly, I was somewhat pessimistic. Although I had read many good reviews about this device, along with a couple of users having trouble with it (however tech support on their newsgroup server seemed to fix their problems right away), I was afraid that this might not be the ideal solution I was hoping it to be.
I was wrong. Installing this device was a breeze. The first thing I did was install the base. Think of this as the base for a cordless phone, it connects to your computer which in turn connects to the internet and then broadcasts its music to your stereo in the other room. (it even uses the same 900mhz as most modern cordless phones). I didn't even have to install the iM radio software because I already had the latest software from online. It instantly recognized the device, no rebooting! The next thing I did was play with the remote, I was able to start and stop the iM radio app using the power button on my remote. Too cool! (The app did crash on me once, I simply pressed the power button on the radio, and the app restarted itself).
The next thing I did was connect the receiver to my stereo in the neighboring room. At first, there was a significant bit of distortion. I realized this was because the volume on my computer was too high. I simply adjusted the computer's volume using the volume controls on the remote and the distortion was gone.
I can't stress how clear the transmission is. The sound coming out of my stereo in my bedroom is identical to the sound coming out of my tethered speakers. There is the occassional static if you walk by the receiver, and when there are quiet moments in a song you can hear a little bit of background static, but nothing that you wouldn't expect from listening to FM radio. Infact, I would go out on a limb and suggest the quality is better than FM radio.
After I got everything hooked up, I laid back on my bed, iRhythm remote in hand and began scanning through the stations. As soon as I found a station I liked, I pressed the "Add to Z band" button, heard a distinct beep from the stereo, and the station was instantly added to my presets. There are 25 bands each with 30 possible stations, and the Z band which is where you put your presets, your MP3 playlists, or your custom streaming audio stations.
I heard a song I liked while I was playing with my new remote, I pressed the smiley button to vote for it and then pressed the info button to get more info. When I got back to my computer later on, the name of the artist was sitting in my in box. All "Best of the Planet(TM)" music at my fingertips and the computer, my keyboard, mouse and ethernet connection were out of the way. It was just me, my stereo and my iRhythm remote control.
I can't say anything bad about this device, the only thing that is annoying is that some of the streaming audio sites are a bit latent and take a while to buffer, even though I have a 3Mbps cable connection. The nice thing is, while you are waiting for it to buffer, iM radio plays a nice intro message, usually the name of the station, and some looping music to let you know that you are still connected. Besides, iM Radio can't control other people's bandwith issues, they are just a third party, organizing streaming content for me.
If you like the idea of being able to control your internet radio stations without being tied to your computer but do not want to deal with wireless audio, there is also the iRhythm K.O. (...) which acts as a stand alone remote. You can always download the software for free to check it out before you buy the hardware. The software interface is almost identical to the hardware interface and you will be all ready to go when you receive your hardware.

I bought this unit to replace a Pioneer Nav unit for my VW Jetta and frankly, I wish I'd kept the Pioneer. The Rosen Navigation unit is quite possibly the poorest designed product I've ever encountered. To be fair, the Navigation portion of the unit is OK, maybe a 5 on a 1-10 scale. The radio? How could they possibly screw that up? What astonishingly bad is the iPad interface. I swear to God, I seriously doubt anyone at this idiotic company even plugged in an iPod to see how it works. Yes, it does play the iPod, so Kudos for getting the sound out of the device. But try navigating around your iPod, try to search for a song or artist or album! It's impossible to do so without endangering the lives of your passengers or fellow motorists because the interface is so confounding you run the risk of rear-ending someone or veering off the road. Unbelievably, it's most detailed search parameter is a numerical input key. Imagine yourself (if you're like me with a couple of thousand songs) thinking, "Gee, I guess I'll play song 5,483. It's literally that insane. Plus, you have to painstakingly scroll alphabetically through all the various categories to search, ie,; song, artist, album with a touch panel the moves like molasses in January. If you play the iPod in random mode, it works, that is until it doesn't as it so often jams the iPod you have to jolt the iPod back to life with a hard reset. Then when you leave your car and expect the device to pick up the iPod on the tune you left off on, it starts all over again from literally song 1 (alphabetically) on the iPod all over again. Frankly I want to throw this thing through a window. An incredible rip-off at $1200. To be clear, I wouldn't take this unit again if it were given to me. It's that bad. Oh, and what's worse it the stunning indifference if you try calling those morons at Rosen to get some tech support. Not only is their phone number not listed on their web site (it took a bit of sleuthing for me to eventually uncover it), but they had the audacity to tell me that the next version would be better, if I was willing to buy another entire unit. When I asked about a software update they simply told me that they don't do that. Oh, and get this -- the bluetooth portion of the unit doesn't import your address book or contacts from your phone, despite the fact that virtually every other manufacturer does so as a basic feature. These clowns had the audacity to tell me that that feature would cost even more money. Horrible unit. Terrible company. YOU STAND WARNED!

Acer iRhythm K.O. Wired Remote Tuner Review

Acer iRhythm K.O. Wired Remote Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
"You can then connect the iRhythm K.O. to computer speakers or a home stereo in the same room as your PC."
The above statement is a bit misleading. The iRhythm has no audio processing built in whatsoever, and the only connector available is a USB connector for the remote control receiver (one half of the transmitter/receiver pair). You can connect your speakers or home stereo to your computer sound card output using the supplied cable. I imagine most people who buy this device will already have speakers hooked up to their computer. Note that to get your computer sound out of your living room stereo, you will likely need to run an audio cable between each. From the manual: "Q:If I don't want to run a wire from my PC to my stereo, what else can I use? A:There are a variety of radio frequency transmitters that operate over 88-107Mhz, 900MHz, or 2.4GHz that plug into your PC and transmit to your stereo." In that case, additional equipment would need to be purchased.
As a wireless remote control for your PC's *existing* audio system, the iRhythm is not bad, but only works with the supplied software, and custom configuration appears to be limited to station presets and playlists. There appears to be a rich, though not exhaustive, set of internet stations to choose from, and this list is being regularly updated.

The innovative Acer iRhythm K.O. wired remote tuner allows you to hook your PC into your home stereo to listen to Internet radio stations or MP3 files. The iRhythm combines the convenience of having an unlimited choice of Internet radio stations and MP3 playlists with your expensive surround sound speaker system. For Internet radio stations, a broadband Internet connection (DSL, ISDN, or cable modem) is highly recommended.
The iRhythm K.O. consists of two hardware pieces--a base unit and a remote control. The base unit connects to your PC via a USB port, as well as through the PC's audio output. You can then connect the iRhythm K.O. to computer speakers or a home stereo in the same room as your PC. With the iRhythm K.O. remote control, you can control the iM Tuner software and easily change radio stations or switch between songs on the MP3 playlist.
The iM Band features Internet radio stations composed of 25 genres covering everything from Top 40 country to college radio and even police scanners. Each genre consists of 32 radio stations. There is a list for broadband connections and one for narrowband connections, giving you 800 stations to choose from.
Don't worry if your favorite Internet radio station is not listed in the iM Band. In addition to the 25 genres, you can create your own channel on a Z-band with your favorite Internet radio stations. You can also put your MP3 playlists on the Z-band.
The Acer iRhythm K.O. requires a PC with an available USB port running Windows 98, 2000, or Me. You'll also need to have Windows Media Player 6.4 or later or RealPlayer 7.0 or later installed. The unit is powered by four AA batteries (included).

I take this to trash. Bad design, flexible arm for connection is poor, signal plug its the worst. When use the charge option with usb to mp3 causes interference.
I loose my money. I regret to technoligy in 21th century still use FM transmitters to listen mp3 in cars. But if you need quality to listen music you like in you car, you have to spend more of $45 bucks.

Sonoro AU-1400RE Cubo Audio System (Red) Review

Sonoro AU-1400RE Cubo Audio System (Red)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
1. Fine sound for the size, really liked that.
2. Waaaaaay too complicated to set things. This is one of those, "We're only going to give you 10 buttons, so to set an alarm, you have to hit this button, then hit that button 4 times, then hit a third button. Complete pain in the neck to get to simple features. I might put up with that, but if you're the sort of person who is frustrated by utterly mysterious ergonomics, be aware, this unit is the anti-iPhone.
3. The system uses an automated CD insert -- you slide the CD into the front of the unit and a little motorized gripper pulls it in or pushes it out when you hit eject. After two weeks, mine stopped working. If I want to hear The Goldberg Variations, it's great, but I was sort of thinking that it would play lots of DIFFERENT CDs, not just the one I put in a week ago!
Bottom line: I'm returning the unit with my CD of the Goldberg Variations still inside it, because I can't get the furshlugginer thing out. I figure if it starts eating CDs in 2 weeks, there's not much hope for this as a long term addition to the house.

Sony WMFX277 Digital AM/FM Stereo Cassette Walkman Review

Sony WMFX277 Digital AM/FM Stereo Cassette Walkman
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this Walkman for the sole reason of owning one for the first time that came with TV tuner, and I was a little disappointed at what it had to offer. But first let me get to its high points. The first great thing about it is its 35 preset stations. That's amazing, with seven offered for TV, seven for AM, and 21 for FM. They're all very easy to set. Then it has for tape two different types of settings, normal setting and Cr02/Metal setting in case you have those kind of tapes. There's also a hold button that comes in very handy to keep yourself from accidently turning on the walkman and draining the battery. And there's the AVLS that lowers the volume instantly when you change from tape from tuner, and the MEGABASS, which greatly enhances the bass, provided you have a good headphone system. It even comes with a leather case in which you place the walkman inside. The leather case comes with a belt clip on it, which was kind of strange since it would have been better if the belt clip was on the Walkman instead. Now for the setbacks. The advertisement said the Walkman lasts around 25 hours playback, but it feels more like 14 to 15 hours playback before the batteries run dry. I guess it depends on the kind of battery you buy. Also the leather case is nice but it's an awful hassle if you decide to switch or changeover tapes while the leather case is on. You have to unstrap it, unplug the headphone, pull it out and put in or changeover the tape, then strap it and plug the headphone back in. A nice feature would have been a zipper where the cassette opener was so that way all you had to do was zip it open and zip it closed, but maybe they'll do it next time. And now for the TV tuner. It is nice to hear TV channels now on the Walkman, but only if you don't mind being able to hear one clearly, and the rest really grainy. I have tried every possible position, but for some reason my Walkman only picks up one channel very well, but the rest really bad or not at all. I don't know, but it sort of set me back because I bought the thing for the TV tuner in the first place. But overall it's still a nice Walkman, with four modes of entertainment that'll keep you entertained in the long run, for a mid-average price.

Sony's WM-FX277 is a portable cassette player with an AM/FM digital tuner. Unlike most, this unit's tuner can also pick up TV audio from channels 2-13. What's more, the WM-FX277 delivers 35 programmable station presets for fast access and convenience. This Walkman includes Mega Bass technology. Also worthy of note is the presence of Sony's Automatic Volume Limiter System. When activated, AVLS keeps the music from playing dangerously loud. The WM-FX277 comes with compact headset headphones that sport over-the-ear drivers. You'll get up to 24 hours of tape playback per set of two AA batteries.

Cisco Linksys Wireless Home Audio Premier Kit--Includes One Director with IR Remote, One Player with IR Remote, and One Controller Review

Cisco Linksys Wireless Home Audio Premier Kit--Includes One Director with IR Remote, One Player with IR Remote, and One Controller
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I ordered this the day of the release and somehow received a previously opened box, someone at Amazon decided to check the system out and try and re-package it to look unopened. However it's pretty obvious when the all the plastic sleeves that the remote and extenders were packed in had torn tape and wrinkles, cords not packed right, etc., not to mention the whole box being re-taped shut.
On to the system. Well there were a lot of things to like about the concept of this system, however Cisco must have outsourced the implementation because it pretty much failed across the board.
The touchscreen is inaccurate (yes I calibrated it) and unresponsive at times, though the QWERTY screen had nice size keys you have to type slow for it to register letters properly, and sometimes it would highlight the letter showing you pressed it, but the letter wouldn't actually register in the text box. You cannot power down the remote besides removing the battery. The remote failed to find the other components even though they show up properly in the packaged EasyLink software. The remote showed 2/3 signal when 3 feet away from my Draft-N DB router, and 1/3 signal when roughly 25 feet away. Both the remote and extenders failed to access my shared music folders, and would return the message "System Busy" nearly instantly like it never even tried to connect.
On to the extender with the display. Although Cisco claims that you can setup your system sans PC software, it completely failed to do so. The use of the side buttons to control the unit through the display is cumbersome and not well planned. Since they are universal you have to press one before the on-screen graphics are displayed to show you the action assigned to each button. When you do this, the system performs whatever function is assigned to it, so it may exit or skip, since you can't see the assigned action until you press it first. The button graphics at times block the left 1/3 of the text box used for searching and to enter your network password. Therefore you are unable to change to the proper letter because you can't see what your doing. The volume scroll pad around the power button is also poorly designed, you have to touch and leave your finger there for a second before you can scroll otherwise it doesn't register the move. You also have to scroll really slow so it can keep up, oh and don't accidentally press the power button while your doing it (the scroll pad is quite small). The backlight behind the power button is also really bright and annoying especially the orange when powered off at night. If they were smart they would have put the same scroll pad from the remote which also has up, down, left, right and center click, instead of the worthless power/volume setup.
On the extender without a display, it makes no sense to ship a secondary remote with it that has anything besides power, play/pause, volume and prev/next. instead they ship a full remote identical to the secondary that comes with the displayed unit beside changing the color of the home button, it's absolutely pointless beyond the simple controls I listed above since you can't see what you're doing. Unless they expect people to memorize the interface or something else ridiculous.
Overall, after hours of wasted time all I got was some Rhapsody out of the one unit with the display, I hooked up some bookshelfs to it and it sounded good for what it is. The PC control interface was pleasing to the eyes, it displayed each zone and would show album art within each zones frame. It was also easy to link the extenders into party mode with 1 or 2 mouse clicks, however it does take 30 seconds or so for the units to sync to one-another. Otherwise the system as a whole was a great concept, but complete failure. The remote interface was simple and easy to navigate, but if Cisco can't fix the touch interface and address its sluggishness via firmware, what good is it. Cisco stripped any sort of diagnostics or manual setup from both the extender/remote menus, as well as the PC software, so when their proprietary setup doesn't work you have no work-around. I used their walk-through install (after manual attempts failed) which includes a self-diagnostic, and according to it all my components installed properly, well so it said. And yes I re-installed and tried again, I also checked that my firmware was up to date, still no inter-system com's, nor access to my music.
Well that was my experience, not too swift! For a $1,000 I expect a proper product that works as designed, not with the major failures and flaws. These days processing power is cheap enough that no new device with empty memory/storage should run so poorly, I can't imagine it handling any sizable music collection without freezing. For this Cisco wasted enough of my time that I felt compelled to type my first product review.
Please remember you mileage may vary, I hope for others sake that my hardware was in many ways defective.

Good work. Video and audio very good, but only if line of sight. If you fully close (clasp) transmitter with a hand, you lose the signal. Windows performance is amazing, 720p video with sound - without craps. With Mac video lags little bit, but desktop and mouse, internet pages, porgramms - all running without any visible latency.
USB working not only with HID devices (such as keyboard and/or mouse), but with flash- pendrives, and even iphone usb sync works wirelessly with windows. But with Mac i can't start iphone usb sync, but pendrives works perfectly too, without any wires. So, try your USB-devices, there is high possibility, that it will work wireless with this product.

It took returning this item 3 times and still not being completely satisfied...but finally realized it is not Amazon's fault and we could have done it 3 more times and the front of the system was still going to have scratches on it. As far as the silver dial on front....I would say that it is not made well..if you push it on one side it looks like it's going to come off, which is why we initially returned the first one. The second one came with scratches all over the front...again...not the fault of Amazon..so by the tine the third one arrived and was also scratched we realized that it was happening during the manufacturing of the item and shame on Sonoro for poor quality control. We decided to keep it anyway...the sound is great!

DTV4PC Review

This product is misrepresented. You do not get access to local channels, but you get old broadcasts. For example, I bought this hoping to see some NHL playoffs, but the best chance of seeing any games was through CBC sports channels (2 of them). It has been showing the same game every time I check it (Toronto vs. Barrie minor leagues 3-0 in the first period) for the past week!!! The same is true for the other CBC sports channel. ESPN never connects successfully. The "Hockey TV" channel in USA is also showing the same game over and over, but it is a different game (Michigan vs some other team).
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!
Other channels have the same issue. The best I saw was a news station that was always broadcasting 1 day behind.

Sony D-NF420PSBLUE MP3/ATRAC3 Psyc CD Walkman with AM/FM Tuner (Blue) Review

Bought mine last 15 Nov 2005 after reading different reviews from cnet and various sources. I had to try if this measures up to what ive heared from the feedbacks. Wow! im so overwhelmed with satisfaction that this cd/mp3 player totally rocks ! If you want the best sound, buy a seperate headphone i recommend Sennheiser PX 200 white color cost $59, so private that even the person near you cannot hear what your listening, i crank up a Wild Swans Bringing Home The Ashes CD, so absolutely superb. Its like carrying your stereo system in your pocket. If you want high quality sound dont skimp on choosing a high quality headphone or earphone, you will know what im talking about. This is only if you prefer headphone for a better wide sound ambiance. Its true that you cannot navigate easily at the dark, no remote control on the earphones provided. You had to read the manual first to understand all its functions.
My conclusion : Very satisfied and worth it.

Combining a lightweight body, stylish good looks, and an impressive array of technical features, this Sony Psyc CD Walkman is a great fit for music fans of all stripes. The Walkman boasts an intriguing dimpled cover encircled by a translucent light blue ring, giving it a high-tech yet playful look that's quite unique among personal CD players. The flashy appearance extends to the pair of stereo headphones, which also offer light blue highlights. More significantly, the device is far more than just a straightforward CD player, as it's compatible with MP3, ATRAC3, and ATRAC3PLUS formats when burned onto a CD-R or CD-R disc, and it includes a built-in digital AM/FM tuner (a rarity among contemporary personal CD players). ATRAC3PLUS is a high-quality audio-compression technology that reduces the size of digital audio files while preserving much of a track's original sound quality (similar in concept to MP3 or Dolby Digital sound formats). With ATRAC3PLUS, music can be burned and compressed at 132, 105, 66, 64, or even 48 kbps (kilobits per second), letting users select the right balance between fidelity and storage space. The end result is a huge increase in CD-R/RW capacity, as each disc can hold as many as 490 ATRAC3PLUS songs when compressed to 48 kbps.
To assist listeners in managing the ATRAC3 and ATRAC3PLUS files, Sony has included a copy of its SonicStage software with each Psyc CD Walkman. The simple-to-use program helps you create your own music compilations on CD-R/RW media using your computer's CD burner. The software is also compatible with Sony's Connect Music store, which offers an extensive online music library with a huge catalog of songs available for quick and easy download. Once the songs are burned to a disc, listeners can glean track, album, and artist information from the Walkman's three-line LCD text display, which comes with multi-language support for greater versatility.
As with any good personal CD player, the Psyc CD Walkman offers anti-skip protection in the form of Sony's Skip-Free G-Protection technology, which helps the device quickly recover from both horizontal and vertical shocks to improve the listening experience. G-Protection is particularly valuable while jogging, skating, or pursuing other outdoor activities. The Walkman's impressive audio performance stems from such features as its Digital Mega Bass Sound, which produces rich, deep bass tones with extremely limited harmonic distortion; Sony's Parametric Equalizer II, which gives listeners extremely precise control over the tonal balance; and a two-position Automatic Volume Limiter System, which consistently maintains the volume output at levels below the distortion threshold so that the sound is always clean and precise.
Should listeners tire of pre-recorded music, they can turn to the digital tuner, which offers not only standard AM and FM stations, but the audio tracks of VHF TV channels 2 through 13 and seven weather stations. The tuner offers a great way to listen to your preferred public radio show, catch the local baseball broadcast, and jog to your favorite DJ's rhythms while running, skating, or working out at the gym. It's also easy to flip among the channels thanks to the 51 station presets, which include 30 FM, 10 AM, seven TV, and four weather band presets. Additional features include a five-direction control key, which gives you single-button control over five individual functions; 18 playback modes, including repeat, program, and random; and an automatic shutoff feature that powers the player down when it's not in use to conserve battery power. The Walkman runs for up to 41 hours on a single AA battery when playing ATRAC3 files or 30 hours when playing the radio and comes with a one-year parts warranty.
Sony's Connect Music store tailors its recommendations to reflect your mood and tastes. About Sony Connect Music Store and ATRAC3plus Sony's Connect Music store offers one of the most extensive music collections online. Customers can choose single tracks or entire albums from independent and major-label artists for purchase and download. Sony's proprietary ATRAC3plus is an advanced audio compression and Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology offering multiple bit rates that allows you to create music compilations tailored to your listening preference. Songs downloaded and burned onto CD-R/RW media using ATRAC3plus technology can be played on any device that supports ATRAC3plus.

PYLE PLCD14MRKT Waterproof Marine CD/MP3 Player Receiver with Speaker and Splash Proof Radio Cover Review

Not a marine grade set. The cd player would not eject the disc I had inside. Sound was ok. Stereo case was rusting after 8 months of use. Audio would go in and out at speed. According to troubleshooting it claims that the radio was at the improper angle. I modified the angle and still would go in and out. I replaced the stereo with a pioneer and have had no issues since. The speakers have ok sound but again not marine grade. The mounting hardware has rusted and now the cones have seperated from the speaker. Trust me on this one. Don't waste your money.

Planet Audio P265IU AM/FM/CD/MP3/Bluetooth Compatible Receiver with Full iPod Control Compatibility with Front USB Port and Full Detachable Face Plate Review

The "normal" functions of the radio including AM/FM and the CD player work just fine. However, I purchased this car audio receiver specifically for its full IPod compatibility, along with blue tooth. In order to use it with my IPod Touch the unit required a special Ipc40 integration cable, which I also purchased and installed. Initially, when I only had about 4-7 gigabytes of music on the IPod, the unit worked great and provided control of my IPod directly from the radio display. Now that I've got about 21 gigabytes of music on the IPod, the radio is unable to complete the "searching" function and just hangs in that mode. As a result of that failure, I am extremely disappointed with the unit.
