RCA RP3755 AM/FM Dual Wake CD Clock Radio Review

RCA RP3755 AM/FM Dual Wake CD Clock Radio

My number one criteria in my search for a clock radio is a digital tuner. If you set a radio station you want to know that you are on that station. Having an analog dial be off slightly may mean you will not hear what you expect or maybe you will hear nothing at all. I am not aware of any other digital tuner clock radio close to this price. This one seems to perform fine. The CD is a good feature, and the unit comes with a CD of interesting sounds. I have been waking lately to mission bells and birds, and it beats the bad news on the radio!
The controls are reasonably straight forward once you get the hang of it. The clock brightness can be lower for night time, although it could be even a little dimmer.
Overall not a bad radio and I got mine at a good price.

RCA RP5600 SmartSnooze Dual Wake Digital AM/FM CD Clock Radio Review

RCA RP5600 SmartSnooze Dual Wake Digital AM/FM CD Clock Radio

I just bought this alarm, so I will be updating on it's functionality soon, but here are my initial thoughts:
FEATURES - This alarm has a decent amount of features for the price. One of the complaints I read in other reviews is that you cannot choose the CD track on the alarm function, it would just wake to the first track of the CD. This alarm allows you to set the track, wake to the radio, or to a buzzer. It also has two wake settings, adjustable "snooze/nap" time and gradual wake alarm (starts soft and increases over 30 seconds). It also has "sleep" mode which allows you to listen to the radio or CD with an automatic off so that you can still wake to the alarm in the morning. It has a back-up battery which allows it to run off the battery in the event of a power failure. The display has a bright (which is blue and clear enough to read from a distance) and dim (which is nice and muted and doesn't light the whole room). It was more compact in size than the Sony model that had similar features (and a bit cheaper too).
**Now one of the main complaints on this model is sound. I think people have an unrealistic idea of what a $25 cd alarm sound should sound like. For a cheap cd alarm radio, the sound is actually pretty good. The radio reception is good, and yes you can hear the CD spinning especially during track change, but let's face it... You are not spending the $100+ that great sound systems like BOSE cost. If you are looking for exceptional sound quality you are going to need to fork out the extra money to buy a higher end model. Even RCA makes a higher end model that I'm sure has improved quality of sound.**
My only wish on this alarm is that it have the smart-set technology which automatically sets your alarm after it has been unplugged or loses power. Other than that, this is a great alarm for the money!

RCA RP5430 AM/FM Clock Radio with 1.4-Inch Display and Auto Time Set Review

RCA RP5430 AM/FM Clock Radio with 1.4-Inch Display and Auto Time Set

This is just a terrific alarm clock. The only minus is that there are lots of buttons, but I find them to be very well laid out, with the occasional settings (daylight savings time, time zone, etc) hidden nicely on the back. I initially didn't care for the asymmetric casing, which looks a bit like someone cut off the left side of the clock, but it's grown on me.
Here are things I like:
* The numbers are clear, not too bright with the autodimmer on, and a very pleasant shade of blue. I can easily read them across a 11 foot room, even with my glasses off.
* It has two alarms, either or both of which can be radio or buzzer.
* The buzzer is a gradual-wake that ends up very loud. It's never failed to wake me.
* The snooze time is settable. I'm not a fan of the 9 minute snooze--I like a nice round 10 minute snooze. :)
* It has a nap feature, where you can set an instant alarm for however long from now without having to change the actual alarms.
* The time set is just the right speed--not too fast (and it's two-way if you overshoot) and not too slow. Sounds like a funny thing to note, but having just purchased another clock with a glacially slow time set, I really appreciate it.
My only caveat is that I had an earlier version of this clock that had an iPod-style set wheel and a slightly different button layout. After awhile, the switch that takes you between lock/wake1/wake2/clock set wore somehow, so that the clock would switch in and out of radio mode when you tried to set the alarm. No biggie, but it's one of the reasons I replaced it, and this clock has a very similar switch. If I run into problems, I'll update the review.
Update: I've seen some comments that you can't turn NAP off once it's set.
You can turn off NAP by holding down the NAP button for a few seconds again once the clock has exited NAP set mode and is showing the time. When you first hit the button, it'll go back into NAP set mode (probably showing 0:20) but after a few seconds, you'll go back to the time with NAP off.
Trick is, the button's a little quirky, and you have to hold down just the edge closest to the back of the clock. The middle of the button or any other edge just throws you back into NAP time adjust but never turns it off. I have no idea why--must be a design or manufacturing flaw of some kind.

Ihome Ipod Clock Radio Review

I was looking for a dual alarm clock and got the bonus of the use of my ipod with this item! Wake to ipod,(or radio)also keeps the ipod charged at all times. It also has enough presets for any radio stations you might want. It puts out a pretty good quality sound too. A really great feature is the daylight savings time button... just a quick switch..and you can either add or subtract an hour. It was very easy to set up. The time is easy to read, very bright, but you can dim it. Comes with the battery back up and the remote even comes with a battery already in !! I received it NEXT day from the shipper. (requested standard shipping) Very satisfied overall !!!

Sangean RCR-2 Digital Atomic Clock Radio with Dual Alarms Review

Sangean RCR-2 Digital Atomic Clock Radio with Dual Alarms
Average Reviews:

I spent a lot of time trying to find the perfect alarm clock for my bedroom and, as you can tell, I am still looking. The Sangean RCR-2 certainly has some attractive features like the atomic clock, which took a few hours to set itself, and the nice styling but it fails in so many areas as an alarm clock. First, and most importantly, the display is unreadable. It is very busy with lots of symbols and numbers but using very thin LCD numerals for the time and the off axis viewing angle is very small; you must basically face it head on. Worst of all, however, is the blindingly bright orange backlight with makes is impossible for night adjusted eyes to read the display if you want to check the time in the middle of the night. It is so bright as to cast shadows throughout the room. I keep it across the room but I can't imagine trying to sleep with this minor sun positioned on the nightstand. Sure, you can turn off the backlight but then the clock is invisible at night. Maybe LEDs are not cool but they make a lot more sense for an alarm clock. Also, it takes at least four button presses to turn on the alarm as opposed to one on my old alarm.

This modern clock radio is a step above the clock radios of the past. For starters, the radio updates its time automatically from the U.S. atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado. While this may force you to work or school on time, the benefits of a constantly updated timepiece are critical in this fast-paced world. The radio even adjusts itself automatically for daylight saving time. The illuminated LCD screen gives you vital information, including: time, date, day of week, sleep, wake times, naptime, and radio information. With the gentle wake option, you can choose for the radio's volume to start low and slowly build over time. The AM/FM radio has fourteen presets for individual programming. The clock radio also features an automatic preset system which scans and memorizes available radio stations. With the two alarms you can set wake-up times on the same or different days of the week. The sleep timer is a nice feature for those who use the radio as a sleep aid. There is a headphone jack for people who want to listen to the radio without bugging the person besides them. The clock radio's color is silver and its styling is modern and sleek.

This clock serves it's purpose adequately enough, however the design and placement of all those buttons is lacking. Most people reach out and turn off their alarm in the dark. It is difficult to find the off button. You have to feel your way around the top of the unit. The "Off" button should have been more protruding or pronounced or placed elsewhere not to be confused with all the other buttons next to it.
