(More customer reviews)I installed this unit in my 2010 Yukon SLT last night and I am very happy with what the unit offers. I removed a real GM Nav Radio and replaced it with this Rosen and like it way more than the GM original. For one thing the GPS is much nicer, the factory only worked with a North up orientation, which I hate, when your going south you will end up turning the wrong way. This unit has a nice 3D screen, more radio presets and a DVD player (which I will most likely never use). The GPS screen is not the most colorful I have ever seen, but that is of no real importance to me, although I know that some people may not think it is "cool" enough for them. It does have IPOD controls and hooked right up to my XM without any problem at all.
As far as the install, well, I did it in less than an hour. All you have to do is use a putty knife to pull the trim piece around the radio off, a 7mm nut driver to remove a total of 8 screws from the radio bracket and your heater controls underneath the radio, and one 7mm screw on the drivers side trim piece between the door and windshield where the tweeter is mounted. The new radio has interface cables that plug directly into the factory cables (takes less than 3 minutes for that part) and hook the GPS antenna to radio, plug in your AM/FM antenna and you are ready to mount the unit back into the dash. The radio will have more wires because of the wiring harness, so you have to tuck the harness back into the small opening behind the radio. Put the temperature control units back in place before you put the radio in place and then tighten up the 8 screws, put your trim piece back on and all you have left is mounting your GPS antenna. I ran the wire underneath the dash, through the fuse box and under the trim piece that holds the tweeter and let the antenna peek put the trim in the very front of the window next to the VIN plate. At that point you just put back the screw holding the side post trim piece and you are all done. It hardly takes any longer than it took me to write this review. You do not have to cut and splice one single wire. The best part was when I turned the unit on, everything worked perfectly.

I have it inside my sport 4X4 truck and it's accompanied by 4 pioneer 6"X9" speakers (1 each door), 2 tweeters and a Kicker CVR 12" Subwoofer. I use only one amplifier which is a 4 channel Boss Acoustic Riot Amp that pushes 1600W!!!!! OH YEAH. I can keep a party with this set up. ALL features including video out works with my 5.5 Generation 80GB Video Ipod.
The stereo is amazing and it gives more value than I expected. The touch screen mimicks the ipod unit which makes "ease of use easier". I bought the IPOD Video cable separately and its just plug and play. The one draw back is that the IPOD 160GB (Sixth generation) does not provide video out on this Clarion stereo so if you have the 5.5 Gen IPOD it's better for you.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this unit due to the clean exterior with minimal blue backlit buttons. When it wow factor this is not the unit for that. It has a lot of features but the actual software is basic bare bones. You have your usual bass, treble, fade and such but no screensaver and no animations. The thermostat looking volume indicator is cartoonish. I love the body of this one but the software of the PLD70BT is better. I will review that later. This one I could never get the RDS functions to work. So I just said forget it. The remote is pretty flat and not too big. Like a long credit card but thicker and the buttons flatter that typical tv remotes. Otherwise, if you want a good touch screen and are using it for basics or with a back up camera. This is not bad but don't expect really nice display or great looking backgrounds.

If so, I wouldn't waste big money on these GPS's. I would just buy a cheap Tom Tom or Garmin, and read a map!!

(More customer reviews)I ordered this unit on Thursday Nov. 11th with two day shipping and got it the next day. Pretty impressed with that. Installing this unit was a breeze and it fit perfectly in my 97 Ram. For the price, great unit. I was impressed with the quality of the build... especially the RCA outputs having rubber coated jackets with attached rubber caps when not in use. Bluetooth works great and LCD screen is sharp and bright. USB only supports up to 249 tracks of audio and SD slot only supports 512kb. The only down side is that I didn't recieve the remote control with the unit, which has limited me on some features that can only be accessed by remote. SSL customer service is somewhat frustrating as I can never get anyone to call me back about getting the remote sent, but I'll keep trying. But overall I'm very pleased with the player. Does everything I want for a great price. Since I couldn't find any reviews on this product before I purchased it, I hope this helps someone along the way.

If one of these units would work for anyone out there, i would suspect that it would not have a long service life. Certainly not as long as the original car radio or of better brand names like Pioneer. Buyer beware of these or similar units. --In any case, Amazon came through and issued a refund after i returned it-- they even paid the postage. So Pyle gets an F grade and Amazon gets an A. I'll be looking for a better brand name.

Once I had it professionally installed I was informed that it was a faulty radio because my Drivers side tweeter wouldn't work with it but would with other tested radios. I informed Amazon and they overnighted another radio to me and once it was installed I was very impressed. Looks great in a car with a double din. Plays DVD flawlessly! Touch screen is very responsive and many options etc!! My speakers are much louder and more clear now with this unit. Would recommend buying from Amazon before going to your audio shop where they would charge you much more!

The unit worked fine when I first installed it, but now when I try to use the blue tooth to make phone calls people cannot understand what I am saying. My voice is Garbled like I am talking under water or something. I contacted Dual customer support and they told me to ship it back for repair or replace. I don't know what to expect from here, I have never owned any Dual products before. This radio seems to be a nice unit, I just hope they take care of the problem in a timley manner.

Pros: Large, motorized screen, has all the features you find in higher end units.
Cons: Screens and displays are very blocky and unattractive. Large blocks of text get in the way of what you're trying to see. Nothing is intuitive except setting stations. Sends you to subscreens for everything, even simple tasks like changing tracks.Summary: The Power Acoustik gives you a lot of features for the money. However the buyer should be aware that you're getting what you pay for here. It definitely does everything it says (if you're lucky. I had problems with 2 units). It's how it does it that bother me. Yes you get a big screen, but it's one of the ugliest displays I've seen. Yes, it's touch screen, but you have to touch it a LOT to do the simplest thing. For example if you're listening to a cd and simply want to go to the next track, you'll have to touch the screen, which in turn brings up a series of boxes with text. Aside from the fact that these boxes are huge and ugly and block most of what you're trying to see in the first place, it's very clunky and distracting when in most higher end unit you can just touch the track you want on the screen.
When listening to a dvr cdr full of music, the unit gets Kudos for even being able to play it. But it takes about 30 seconds for it to load before you hear any music at all. And you'll have to do that every single time you turn the key off, even for a second. Imagine a day of running errands. While you're waiting on the cd to load, all other functions are inoperable, so you can't even switch to the radio while you wait.
When you have a cd full of mp3 files loaded you'll get a split screen with the album title on the left and the track listings on the right. Nice. But again, instead of simply touching the track or title listing you want, when you touch the screen you get those big blocky text things. Then you must touch the "Left" or "right" button. Once you get to the side of the screen you want you must painstakingly toggle up and down to the title you want by repeatedly touching huge blocks printed with the words "up" and "down". Once you finally have what you want highlighted you still have to touch the big huge "enter" block to make it play, then "exit" to get all that crap off the screen.
Keep in mind that all this stuff appears over the top of the listings your trying to see.
When you compare that to say, a Pioneer unit where you simply touch your finger on the screen and drag it down to move the list of songs up and down, then touch the one you want....you start to understand why they cost more. And you wonder if it's worth the extra money.In my case, absolutely. This unit has all of the features of the Pioneer I was looking at, a bigger screen than the one I was looking at and even an sd drive that the pioneer unit didn't have. But in hindsight I would gladly pay $100-$200 more for a double din that just works more intuitively and looks better doing it (the sd drive in the one I have, a replacement unit, doesn't work by the way).

Alpine IXA-W407 - Digital player with LCD monitor and radio Review

(More customer reviews)I've been searching for a while for something that will work properly with the iPhone. A lot of the units I've come across seem to work with the iPod but then throw up that unsupported device message on the iPhone, not what I wanted. Took a bit of a gamble on this as it was fairly new when I ordered, but I've had rock solid performance from Alpine in the past so I went with it.
The install's not too bad. I was replacing a double DIN unit so it slotted straight in. The wiring wasn't too much trouble, pretty standard stuff with well labelled wires and a good manual. The hardest part was figuring out the wiring from the Subaru factory harness, but no big deal really. If buying this unit, you really want to get the PAC TR7 Universal Trigger Module as well. Without it you'll need to tap into the park brake and foot brake which can be a major pain. Instead you can connect this little module in and bypass the lockout 'feature' which prevents you from watching video and changing any settings unless both brakes are on.
Once installed the unit seems to work fine. Radio reception is really good with no static, don't have Sirius here so can't vouch for that but I'm sure it works fine. Working with the iPhone is great, I just get in connect the phone and the music starts. Sometimes it'll start from the beginning of the song list meaning that I keep getting the same song on startup, but I just hit 'next' and it soon skips to the next random song. I think this might happen if you use the phone for something else whicl you're out of the car. If you leave it in the iPod app it might just pick up from where it left off. Would need to test this though.
Bluetooth has worked really well. The unit and iPhone found each other and paired quickly, syncing contacts. Now I just jump into the car and they connect automatically. Call clarity is really good with the supplied mic, people say they can't tell I'm using a handsfree set in the car.
Only real trouble has been with streaming audio over Bluetooth via A2DP. When streaming audio there was a tiny pause in the music every 20-30 seconds. Sometimes the problem disappeared and sometimes it was really bad. It made using streaming audio impossible so I've disabled it. Looks like the problem is with the way Apple have implemented A2DP on the phone and not the fault of Alpine. This was made worse because as soon as Bluetooth connected, it would start streaming, overriding the wired iPhone source that was already running and causing problems. If you need to stop this behaviour and have a jailbroken iPhone, look on Cydia for an app called BTPS which lets you disable A2DP and therefore audio streaming. Works great and all the other phone functions over Bluetooth still work.
Haven't tried the nav unit either. Using TomTom on the iPhone so no need really.
Audio quality is great as you'd expect from Alpine. Some of the screen graphics can look a little low-res at times, but video plays fine and looks really good.
Great unit in all, highly recommended.

The good:
-It has a good amount of power. I ran this to my stock speakers and they sounded much, much better than they did with the factory receiver.
-Good build quality. The physical unit feels well made. Mechanical flip face works smoothly, buttons and volume dial feel solid.
-It's cheap.
The bad:
-iPod integration is terrible. There is no way to easily scroll through artists/albums etc. You have to click an arrow to flip through each individual entry. This is OK if you have a couple albums on a nano, but not OK if you plan to connect an iPod with a large library. Finding an artist beginning with 'N' took close to 100 clicks with my full 120GB iPod classic. And if you want to go from Nelly to Nirvana, you have to start all over from 'A' again.
-Poor screen resolution. Font edges are jagged.
-No dimmer. It has a dimmer connection wire, but it did not work on my unit. The screen was at full brightness at all times, and the manual dimmer control did not work either. At night it was like having a spotlight in my dash.
-Restarts between sources. Every time you change sources, the entire unit restarts. Screen shuts off then on and everything. It doesn't take too long, 3-4 seconds maybe, but it is rather odd and obnoxious. I took the whole thing out to check for a loose connection when it first happened. Called Clarion about it and they said it is normal operation.
-Navigation. The specs list this unit as being compatible with an optional navigation unit. However, the only input for the navigation unit is a component video connection. So if you were to connect navigation, the VX409 would only serve as a monitor, and you would not have touch screen control of anything.
Overall, the actual physical unit could be quite nice. However the software feels like going back to using Windows 95.

(More customer reviews)I bought this for my Hyundai Sonata. The price was great given the built in features. So many decks come with "ready" and "compatible" features--which is fancy for "buy them separately."
I installed this myself and couldn't believe how easy it was, however....
You will more than likely need to custom trim the dask kit. This deck face slides out and needs clearance. I had to trim about an 8th of an inch at the top and sides. It came out great with my dremmel tool.
I did another goofy thing and bought the wrong wire harness. I didn't need one for "premium sound" system. I just had to cut the electronic instrument and simply crimped the wires together.
So, for the price, I'd say this is well worth it.
Keep in mind that I have only had it installed and working since Christmas day. Hopefully it will last long. I bought the square-deal three-year warranty just in case!

(More customer reviews)I just purchased this headunit from Amazon 7 days ago. I am now packing it for a return. I absolute love the interface, scrolling/swipe, and features. I can't, however, deal with the issues. It seems like Clarion got to a beta stage and just rushed it to release.
PROS
Gorgeous interface
Swiping / Scrolling is seamless
iPhone like usability
Comes with Sirius, BT, Nav, and iPod cables !
CONS
My issues are:
1) The Clarion advertised RCB199 external microphone does NOT work with the unit. This was confirmed by Clarion's technical support themselves. The gentleman on the phone said that an engineer is making a hardware change to fix the issue. Even so, it is unacceptable for Clarion to advertise this optional mic if it does NOT work with the unit. What were they thinking? I spent hours trying to figure out how to get it to work all to find out that they lied in the product description!
The internal BT mic picks up too much road noise on the highway and is unusable.
2) If you do not shut off the unit while on Sirius, then Sirius will NOT work when you turn on your unit (most of the time). You have to hold the power button down and reset the unit to reset Sirius. This is a major inconvenience. Clarion technical support said that "they are working on it" but it is "a problem with the Sirius tuner" and a software update "probably won't fix it." This is a major inconvenience.
3) My navigation antenna broke after 6 days. I pulled the cord out and it was not pinched or damaged in any way. Clarion offered to replace it (if I paid shipping) but this was my last straw and I decided to return the headunit. Why should I have to pay for shipping and send a part back if it's 6 days old?
4) Here and there, the iPod jitters and has a 1/2 second lag. It disrupts the song. This has been reported on other reviews. I have tried three iPod cable and another iPod with no success. It is most definitely a software error.
5) This headunit is BLUE. Absolutely everything is blue. For a retail price of $1,000, I should be able to adjust the color to match my dash. When the unit boots, the LEDs turn red so they actually used multi-color LEDs but didn't give us the option of changing them. In addition, you CANNOT change the wallpaper for iPod, Sirius, BT, etc. You can only change the source wallpaper which you are never on. Also, if you import a wallpaper and select a default wallpaper, you automatically lose you imported wallpaper forever. I called Clarion and they said no update is planned--Blue is here to stay.
6) Dimming works fine, but you cannot dim the buttons. At night the bright blue buttons are distracting and strains your eyes.
Minor issues:
It takes 4-5 clicks to change the subwoofer level. This is dangerous if you want to turn it down for a bass-intensive song while driving.
You cannot change the splash screen.
Nav is slow to start (music starts very quickly)
The previous model, the NX500, has no firmware updates so I doubt Clarion will fix these issues with their new model. I'm looking into a competing product (X930BT, NT3HDT, DDX series) and will never consider Clarion again. That is how disgusted I am with all of these issues.
