Emerson iTone iP550 Portable Stereo System for iPods (Silver) Review

Emerson iTone iP550 Portable Stereo System for iPods (Silver)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I at first had bought the iLive product and had to return 2 of them because they didn't work (AC plug didn't work)
This one has worked great for a month and has smart features like not charging the ipod when running on batteries. It's missing the CD player the iLive had but hey, if you have an ipod, why do you need a CD player? It's also about 1/10th of the weight of the iLive. This one is very portable and music quality is great for a unit this size.
Only downsides to this unit are nowhere to store the remote control and limited features on the remote (switch bands, volume, skip songs, power) but other than that, it's been a great unit....I'm only sorry I didn't get it earlier.

SKYFi2 XM SA10273 Satellite Radio Receiver with Car Kit Review

SKYFi2 XM SA10273 Satellite Radio Receiver with Car Kit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
In general, the Skyfi 2 is fine, and please default to all the other reviews that sing it's praises.
My biggest gripe with this receiver is the volume control on the remote only functions when you have the receiver connected to a SKYFI boom box (so I read). I use the unit with my home stereo setup, which means I am changing the skyfi channels with the skyfi remote, but then adjusting the volume on my home theatre volume control. The inability to control the skyfi output volume via the remote is completely stupid. I certainly will not be purchasing the bulky skyfi boombox just so I can have control via the remote. I'm still completely baffled, but the instructions clearly say that the volume control option only works in conjunction with skyfi boombox units. Wow. I own a portable xm myfi unit, the remote controls the volume output on that device, as any normal remote would. It's a huge disappointment to not have the volume control. Amazon is great about returning things, so if I have the time to return and replace with another myfi unit, I may do so.
My second gripe is that when searching through the general genre categories, you are forced to cycle all the way through the 12 or so categories to reach the category you just passed over. Again, really annoying and horrible design, considering the beauty of this unit is the ability to search a wide variety of music.
Electronics have come so far in the past 15 years, it pains me to think the designers of these units are overlooking such stupidly obvious user friendly features.
- Bill

Audiovox SIR-BB1 Sirius Satellite Radio Portable Boombox for SIR-PNP2 Receiver Review

Audiovox SIR-BB1 Sirius Satellite Radio Portable Boombox for SIR-PNP2 Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This will be my first month with sirius and I am very happy with the product. I'd thought about waiting till the end of next year to buy it because all I wanted to do was to listen to Howard Stern. But then I heard of his promotion plus sirius had special NFL programing. Then I saw this boombox, wow, I had to have it. I like it. Its portable so I can bring it from room to room (although I need to put my antenna by the window for the best reception). It works great. The only thing bad about it is you can't adjust the volume with your remote control (even though you can't also with your stereo unless you use your stereo's remote). so if the radio is playing a little too loud and you get a phone call you have to get up to lower it or turn it off. Otherwise this is a cool boombox. I see that they are also selling the SPB1 Sportster boombox and I'm thinking about getting that (new look), but check your reciever first. If you dont have Sportster SPR1 receiver the new sports boombox will not fit. For all you Stern fans out there, you dont have to wait till next year to get sirius. They have plenty of channels to keep you happy. If you dont want to pay monthly, they have a lifetime membership subcription as well so you wont be spending anything extra if you get it now instead of nex year. Satellite Radio is going be what cable television has change regular television.

Have had this boombox for 5-6 months now. Features are not bad for the price, however there are a few issues with this box.
- A/C Power supply is huge.
- Not very loud, max volume is not quite enough.
- Poor docking design, have to fiddle with it most times to get the audio jack to connect properly. Not sure this will last.

iHome iH6 Clock Radio for iPod (White) Review

iHome iH6 Clock Radio for iPod (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this on a whim, since I've been waking up to my $5 alarm-radio recently. The build quality is excellent, and the ported chambers are good. Not anywhere like the bose wave radio, but pretty decent. I'd rate it lower than bookshelf speakers, about on par with mid-grade computer speakers, and above most clock radios.
The layout is good. It's a little funny to set the alarms; hold the "alarm 1" button, then turn the dial quickly or slowly till it's done, then press "Alarm On" to toggle alarm 1, alarm 2, alarm 1 & 2, off. Once you get used to it, everything is easy. The radio tuning is done by turning the dial, the "scan" is only on the remote. Remote works well from 10ft away.
However, on the front of the box it states "Works with all dockable iPods" with an asterisk. On the other side of the package, in tiny letters, it says "not compatible with 3G iPod". I really have a contention with the use of the word "All" when it doesn't mean "All". On picking this item up quickly, I saw the star but didn't think to check out the exception; I thought it referred to the "iPod not included" elsewhere on the package. I would never have expected "All dockable iPods" to mean the same as "All dockable iPods except the 3G dockable iPod". Other radios say "Compatible with 4G, 5g, Photo..." and so on. Much more clear. Incidentally, the iH5 (earlier version) is 3G friendly, and I'll probably be picking that up soon.
Another note: the "2 alarms" isn't as nice as I thought; 1 alarm is beeper or ipod, the 2nd is radio. I wanted 2 ipod alarms, or 2 any alarms. It puzzles me why they decided to limit each alarm. So essentially, this is a 1 1/2 alarm ipod alarm clock for me.
Overall, good design, good build, recommended product unless you have a 3G.
(Rating 4 stars, no minus for the 3G incompatibility)

I can't give this produce good marks except that it was cheap in price. I guess the sound quality and FM adjustability is good. The LCD display went out on day 2 (so I have to adjust the FM channel without knowing what frequency is on). The on/off button doesn't work reliably. The grip does not hold the iPhone snugly and the phone comes crashing off the platform on practically any turn of the car. The product does not adjust well and bumps up against dashboard gear when trying to plug it in snugly. I suppose this may be a hard product to make to fit a broad set of use conditions, but there are a number of different things wrong in terms of reliability and design that are hard for me to look past.

Sony 2 GB Walkman Video MP3 Player with FM Tuner (Black) Review

Sony 2 GB Walkman Video MP3 Player with FM Tuner (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used just about every MP3 player there is and this one is right there with the best of them. It's small light and extremely easy to use. You don't need ANY software to upload songs to it. The device shows up like a drive on your PC. You have the option of using Windows Media Player 11 to upload songs, but I'd rather just drag and drop songs or use my Napster subscription to upload songs from Napster's huge library. I thought 2GB wouldn't be enough but it is so easy to upload songs when my mood changes that it's never been an issue for me. If you like to watch movies then you may want to go with the larger 4GB (NWZS616) or 8GB (NWZS618) versions of this model since a typical movie takes up ~700K memory after you compress it to QVGA. If you want a larger screen size then you can get the NWZA815. That model is basically the same player with a larger screen. It also has a heavier metal shell, but it does not have an FM tuner like the NWZS615, and I wanted the FM tuner. I typically use my player in shuffle mode in my car and if I don't want to hear a song, it is a breeze to reach down and click just to the right of the center button to skip to the next song. I honestly can't see how anyone would be disappointed with this player especially when you consider the great price.

Skullcandy S7PIBN-CZ Pipe Speaker Dock for iPod and iPhone (Chrome) Review

Skullcandy S7PIBN-CZ Pipe Speaker Dock for iPod and iPhone (Chrome)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
One of the best sounding and looking portable speakers with an iPod dock.
1. Style
- Bought these in Chrome... but all of them are VERY sleek and VERY stylish. The cylindrical tube shape does need a bit of getting used to, and the small size is a major plus for those on the go. The nifty remote control really tops it all off- which I might add: though stated on the manual that the remote is only effective up to about 10ft, I have successfully gotten them to work at about 30-35ft away.... and now the best part...
... 2. Sound!
These are one of the BEST sounding portable speakers availible, up there with the LG MSP-100 folding speakers, which is my personal favorite. Both speaker sets are VERY loud while retaining clarity, but the Skullcandy Pipes do have a bit more on the low end/bass tones.
Running either on the AC wall adapter or AAA battery option, these babies pump out a whopping 5.6 Watts max! (Pretty Good considering their size, the LG MSP-100's only pumped out 4 Watts.)
These DO tend to distort at high volumes, but it's mainly only the low's that cause it. The Mids and Highs are still somewhat clear, but the distortion of the Lows really just ruins the music at those volumes.
AUDIOPHILE REVIEW:
Now, these do have weak lows and decent mids and decent highs.
*****These tested to have a freq. range of: 50hz-20khz.*****
The sound is slightly better when plugged into the wall.
As expected, the sound is only decent while on battery power.
3. Overall Opinion
These are GREAT speakers for those wanting to replace that boombox/radio sitting on their desk at home or work, and for those who want to share their music while on the go- at a picnic, or just hanging out at a party on the beach! These speakers do pack quite a surprising punch despite thier decievingly small size. The $69.99 price tag Target and some other retailers give these DOES seem a bit high, but the lower prices seen on eBay and Amazon do make a BIT more sense though sometimes a bit too low. $45-$55 seems a bit more appropriate.
BOTTOM LINE: BUY THEM! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Honeywell RN507W NOAA Weather Alert/All Hazard FM Radio with S.A.M.EAmazing product, but not for the electronically challenged user. You must follow the instructions EXACTLY and then go over them several times to make sure you haven't missed anything. Living in the tornado zone of Florida this radio will be of vital use. It is nice not to have to listen to unwanted weather broadcasts not pertinent to our area. Other radios sound the alarm for rainstorms etc. in several counties we are not interested in. iHome iH5 Clock Radio and Speaker System for iPod (White) Review

iHome iH5 Clock Radio and Speaker System for iPod (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been long needing a new alarm clock/radio for my bedroom now and luck has it that SDI Tech just put out on the market something that I was looking for. The iHome is essentially an alarm clock radio with a docking station for the iPod. The unit is no bigger than a regular clock radio, measuring 9.2 in [234mm] width, 2.7in [69mm] height and 5.5in [141mm] depth so it can comfortably fit even on a small nightstand. Packaging contains the unit itself, instructions manual, removable docking station to fit the different kinds of iPods, back-up batteries for when power goes out [we all hate to see the flashing 12:00 when this happens], power adapter and an external radio antenna. No remote control though! You have to purchase it separately and it comes free if you buy one of their hard iPod cases for around $40 if I remember right. A smart marketing move, but deplorable. Just include the remote!
Sound quality is what to be expected of speakers of that size. SDI claims to be using an innovative "tunnel sound" system called Reason8 [resonate, how cool :/]. They're pretty loud at full blast but I was hoping they would offer a deeper, stronger sounding bass. I have a similar sized pair of computer desktop speakers that came with one of my old Hewlett Packard computers that offer better sounding bass. For those that don't listen to a lot of techno, I suppose it's no biggie. Reason8 does sound better than most other competitors out there tough, but doesn't quite touch Bose or Altec Lansing.
The iHome has some very cool features. Even without a docked iPod it can still offer quite good functionality: alarm clock, radio. On the back of the unit there is aline in on the back so you can connect pretty much any audio device and listen through the speakers. The Snooze button also adjusts the display brightness, offering 3 different settings. Also found on the back of the unit there is a small button for daylight savings time, sleep volume adjustment and clock set-up.
Dock an iPod and things get interesting. While charging it, you can listen to music directly through it, you can set it so it automatically shuts off at intervals ranging from 120 minutes to 60 to 30 to 15. As the timer approaches zero, volume slowly and subtly turns itself down.
You can set it so when it's time to wake up, you will be awaken to the sound of music coming from your little mp3 player.
Gripes:
Remote control not included. What gives? Smart marketing move, as I've mentioned above, but it would have been nice to have it included, given the unit's price.
Even on the lowest brightness setting I still find the unit too bright for my taste. The blue hue lights up my whole room. I sent an e-mail to SDI tech support inquiring about ways to make it dimmer, no response yet. If this is to be an alarm clock radio, why didn't they offer more than just 3 brightness settings? If nothing else, I think I'll find some translucent duct tape and put it over the front display, trying my best to make it blend with the design.
Buttons on the top have a different color than the front display. The front is a warm blue, the buttons are orange. I personally think from a design standpoint the unit would have looked more ballanced if it was in a single color.
Speaking of buttons, they seem rigid to the touch, giving off a loud click when pressed. The round turn buttons for volume and settings are a bit tricky to use. It may be just my unit but I found both to be sometimes unresponsive and when they finally do work, they are too touchy. I think it would have been a very nice feature if, for the price claimed on such a unit, the buttons would have been replaced with tactile wheels, just like the iPod.
Radio antenna cable has a plug that's actually in the middle of the cable itself. It would have been nice if the thing actually plugged in the very back of the unit, so if it wasn't needed [like in my case], one wouldn't have to worry about ducking away 3 inches of useless tangle.
Another nice feature would be the ability to select exactly what song on the iPod to wake up to. Presently, the thing just picks up where it left off playing the night before.
My Samsung cellphone is at fault for the following gripe, having spoiled me rotten. My phone has 3 settings for alarms: daily, Monday through Friday or Saturday and Sunday. Would be nice if the iHome had a similar feature, so if you go to bed late on a Friday and forget to turn off the alarm, you won't be awaken Saturday morning.
Final Thoughts:
I purchased this unit primarily because I wanted a system that allowed me to listen to my tunes as I read a book before going to sleep. I also needed a new, functional alarm clock. The SDI iHome paired these two needs into one nice option. I had $100 worth of gift certificates at Best Buy so I figured why not. If it wasn't for my abovementioned "overdue" needs, I probably would have waited. Wait and see what the competition comes out with. Wait for the price to go down a bit because as it stands right now, it's a bit high. If you end up purchasing it, rest assured that it's a nice gadget that will surely serve you well. Nice features, good sound quality, best suited to be used in a bedroom.

With its built-in docking station and clean, contemporary design, the iHome iH5 clock radio is the perfect complement for your Apple iPod digital music player. Not only does the iH5 let you listen to your iPod music free from cumbersome headphones, it lets you fall asleep or wake to music you've loaded into your iPod. You can also wake or sleep to FM/AM radio or wake to a traditional buzzer. The compact unit measures roughly 9 x 3 x 6 inches (W x H x D) yet comes complete with stereo speakers, drift-free digital FM/AM radio tuning, a multifunction LCD with adjustable backlighting, and the ability to charge your docking iPod's battery right from its center seat. (The iH5 includes handy inserts to accommodate any type of docking iPod: 3G, 4G, iPod mini, or iPod photo.) Immediately upon plugging it in, the clock will set itself, drawing on its factory-installed 100-year calendar (year/month/day, 2000 to 2099). The clock will maintain accuracy all on its own, even self-adjusting for daylight savings time and leap years. Fall asleep to your favorite station or a carefully chosen iPod playlist using the unit's programmable sleep timer (15 to 120 minutes in 15-minute increments). Gradual Wake and Gradual Sleep features will increase (on wake-up) or decrease (on sleep) the system volume so as not to startle you. Adjustable sleep volume lets you select a comfortable "sleep" volume level without affecting the wake-to or listening volume levels. A supplied analog audio interconnect affords hookups with non-docking iPods, other MP3 players, cassette players, or other audio devices. Other features include automatic frequency control (AFC) for enhanced FM reception, an amber backlight on all primary buttons, and optical knobs for precise volume/tuning. For extra security, if you've selected iPod as your wake-to source and your iPod isn't docked, a buzzer will sound instead. The clock also comes with Sure Alarm battery backup--just install two AA batteries to activate the feature. In the event of a power failure, or if you disconnect the AC power cord to move it, the Sure Alarm system will maintain your clock and alarm setting for the life of the batteries, ensuring that the alarm will sound at the set time. The iH5 is "Made for iPod"-certified by Apple. What's in the Box Clock radio, a stereo analog audio interconnect, dock inserts for any type of docking iPod (3G, 4G, iPod mini, iPod photo, and iPod nano), an AC power adapter, and a user's manual with warranty information.

RCA RP5412 SmartSnooze Dual Wake AM/FM Clock Radio Review

RCA RP5412 SmartSnooze Dual Wake AM/FM Clock Radio
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The engineers got nearly everything on this alarm clock perfect. The switchs, lights, and knobs are dead on. What I mean is that the controls make perfect sense. They are logical, well laid out, and easy to use. In addition, the gradually increasing volume of the alarm is just right. It is neither abrasive, not too soft. If it were not for the following problem, I would by 10 of these and put them in a safe to use over the next 50 years of my life and keep an eleventh to be buried with.
What makes this machine worthy of only one star is the LCD (backlit with blue). The screen makes this clock simply useless. It is too small and the backlight is too powerful.
During the day, it is impossible to read the screen more than 3 feet away, and I have better than 20/20 vision. More importantly, at night the light is so bright I have to turn it around 180 degrees. This obviously is a problem when I want to know how much time I have left to sleep. But, add to that that when I turn it to face me, the light is so overpowering that I must put it within 12 inches of my face to read the damn thing.
I cannot overstate how much I like the layout of this machine. However, I must simultaneously warn you: DO NOT buy this clock under any circumstances whatsoever.

Sony AM/FM/Weather Walkman Radio - SRF-M37V Review

Sony AM/FM/Weather Walkman Radio - SRF-M37V
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Sony SRF-M37V is a palm-sized Walkman type radio that requires headphones. It uses one AAA battery providing reasonable battery life. It is quite superior for AM listening and has become a favorite with hobby DXers. If you are trying to hear a distant talk show, this radio is a great choice. The FM section is average in both selectivity and sensitivity. Your headphone cord doubles as its FM antenna. You'll hear local stations but don't expect miracles. Weather band reception was an afterthought. Sony's engineers did not add narrowband circuitry appropriate for receiving weather band stations. By using the same broadband circuitry used for broadcast FM, you'll hear nearly all seven weather frequencies at once regardless of which channel you have chosen. Unless you are fairly close to a weather band transmitter, do not expect to hear anything on this band. The radio does include a time-of-day clock, but it can only be read when the unit is off. Finally, all the pushbuttons on the unit are quite sensitive and can be accidentally pressed especially the power on/off button. Learn to use the button lock-out switch on the top of the set. It will cure your aggravation. Instead of the SRF-M37V, I would highly recommend the very basic Sony SRF-59 all-analog Walkman radio. It's half the price, works just as well on AM and sounds better. The only thing you will lose is the convenient pushbutton presets offered on the SRF-M37V. Either way, you can't go wrong. Both Sony models are good values.

This radio was very easy to install and the retractable antenna is cool and works well. The Instant Radio application is simple, but functional for radio listening or basic recording, but the Snaptune One software is very cool. You have to set up a recording and let it go for a while, but after a couple of days I had more than 80 songs....50 of them had artist name, song title and ablum art....very cool. Then I just right clicked on the song title and sent the songs to iTunes. The audio quality is FM, but sounds pretty damn good for FREE Songs.

Wow, First of all I love the option of 2 day delivery, it was well worth it. Second ,the Pyle PHS901CW exceeded my expectations. The unit is well made and looks more like a piece of furniture, than an Ipod docking station. Third point, the unit sounds great as is right out of the box. I'm not a Bose fan which is what most e-tailers and retailers push as the best docking station out there. This unit has more punch and features than it's competitors. The remote works very and my IPhone charges while playing music. I give this unit an 8.5 out of 10. Please keep in mind I have yet to see and hear a 10. I look forward to Pyle's next gen. unit.
