I did not expect great sound quality from a small rubber radio, but it sounds much worst than i thought, especially regarding the price of the device. The volume controls don't work properly, not responding one third of the time. Battery access is poorly designed, requiring removal of 3 tiny screws using two different screwdrivers. I picked this one for its looks, but you will find many better radios for much cheaper.

(More customer reviews)The basic problem is it's too low volume. The slim manual gives a couple tips--like turning up the source volume--so clearly they know there's an issue, but nothing really helps. If you want something small and easy to carry around in a pretty quiet environment, this is dandy. However, in the shower, with a not-particularly-loud vent fan on, it is unusable. Given that it is sold for the shower, that really sucks!
I emailed their tech support on their website weeks ago to see if there were more tips I could try--no reply. That's the real final straw.

Sony ICFS79W AM/FM/Weather Band Digital Tuner Shower Radio (White) Review

(More customer reviews)I very rarely write reviews but I love this radio so much I felt inspired. (Actually I own the S79V, but it seems to be identical to this one.) It is simply the perfect shower radio. Reception is excellent and better than some of the more expensive radios in my house. It has a clever suction cup aerial that sticks to shower tile well. The controls are simple and I particularly like the timer function, so I don't need to worry about turning it off. It goes forever on a set of batteries. I also like that this isn't equipped with a CD player, which would add bulk for a questionable extra function.
The white plastic has yellowed over time (four years?), and the top control panel membrane has deteriorated slightly, but it's still going strong. I purchased a replacement just to have a spare handy should I need one and find that Sony has stopped making these gems.
