It absolutely seems like the best thing for anyone to enjoy all of your favorite songs no matter what goes your way. While so many people are choosing Apple's Ipod as the constant choice, many people don't want all the fads from the gameplay of the Ipod Touch, or the ability to go online via Wi-Fi. Just the simplicity of what a MP3 Player should be about, the music. Sandisk know that feeling, as they've made the best quality MP3 Players for the past several years, and they've shown it well withe the simplest of them all.Sandisk's Sansa Fuze MP3 Player is a simple and convient way of storing and playing all your favorite music and media files, on the go. The 4 GB is easy to use, and operate with a simple flick of the thumb, as you scroll through the library of MP3 files that you download from your favorite services like Rhapsody. The playback is definitely very strong, but what makes this MP3 Player stand out well is the convience of adding extra songs to playback, all thanks to the added Micro SD Card slot, as it reads well from your extra songs you've stored in a Micro SDHC Card, which extends the variety well, so you don't have to keep plugging it into your computer just to add extra songs. While it handles well, there are couple of disadvantages to the Sansa Fuze. The first one is that the MP3 Player loses its battery life quickly only about 3-4 extended times on the go, which isn't a bad thing. It does have a better battery life than most MP3 Players out there. The second one is that if the battery is damaged, you won't be able to get it changed unlike the Ipod, where others can repair it. Still, it is easy to protect from any damage that can come its way. All in all, Sandisk's Sansa Fuze is a great MP3 Player for anyday, and any time to enjoy your favorite tunes. While it'll never be able to match the drawing power Apple has shown with its Ipod, it definitely is a great alternative for anyone who is looking for a great alternative for what Apple has cornered in the market. I absolutely recommend it as a great buy, as Sandisk knows for what makes a better MP3 Player for the music lover in you.

(More customer reviews)I was also tricked into buying a worth-much-less refurbished item (not "bulk" so much as "used") by what I view as deceit - no mention of the second-rate refurbished quality in the item description.
'REFURB' is branded deeply in the back of the item - very classy.
When you want to return the tacky thing - Surprise, a minimum 10% restocking fee, sucker!
Do yourself a favor - buy a new item for a few bucks more and don't get cheated.
Amazon should be ashamed, I am very disappointed.

I really liked what I heard about this player for audiobooks until I saw the review that said that it does not bookmark. I thought so, too, but I discovered all you have to do is press the Play button and it brings you back to where you left it. (see details below of the steps, but they are
1. Turn off while playing
2. Turn on.
3. Press play. Starts where you left off.
Sound
The sound is beautiful. It is the only flash drive player I have found that handles Audible format 4 which is the highest and is comparable to MP3. The next lower is format 3 and is comparable to FM radio. Format 3 is the standard for most. I tried it with NetLibrary audiobooks which is available from a number of public libraries. I had the same problems with the Sansa that I have had with the Creative Muvo (see below) so I think it is the NetLibrary format.
Volume Knob
I did not find the volume knob hard to use when it was out of the case. I have not tried it in the case.
Case
There is a trick to get the player out of the case. It goes into the case top first so the top of the player is at the top of the case. All you have to do is press with a little pressure on the the top of the case - toward the bottom of th case - to ease it out of the bottom of the case.
Display
The elapsed and remaining time digits are WAY, WAY too small.

Additional information on the bookmark. I am beginning to suspect that there are different versions of the firmware on different ones.
Works with Audible Audiobooks
Here is what I am able to do consistently. I have tried in different chapters of a book and in different books.
While listening to an Audible book.
It is playing...
1. Hold the side button until it shuts down ...it will shut down when you hold down the side button for 5 seconds - it counts down with squares on the screen and then when you let up, it shuts off.
2. Press the same button to turn it on.It is now NOT playing, but it DOES show the title of the book and its chapter on the screen.
3. I press Play and it starts exactly where it left off.
Bookmarking Does Not Work with Music
I WAS NOT able to get this or any other form of bookmarks to work with music. This is definitely a screw-up.
Problems Using NetLibrary audiobooks.
I have problems with NetLibrary audiobooks with my Creative Muvo MP3 players as well. These are being used by several public libraries, but not all players - iPods don't work at all - work with their files. The problem I have seen is that files longer than about two hours do not show a longer length or they show as 00:00 in the elapsed time.
Cable Not Proprietary
Another point was made that the cable is "proprietary." The cable is not proprietary. It is a USB 2.0 A-Mini 5-Pin B cable. I didn't think it was proprietary because my Creative n200 has the same cable. To be sure, I bought two different makes and designs (one regular, one retractable) from Radio Shack tonight. They worked with no problems with the Sansa e140.
Does NOT take three to four minutes to start up with card. I have an e140 with a one Gig SD card. I timed it. It takes 10 SECONDS!

SanDisk Sansa C240 1GB MP3 Player Blue Review

(More customer reviews)I got this little MP3 player for Christmas back in 2006, and it still works. It's really easy to use and sync with a drag-and-drop format. It's tough little bugger and stood up well to three years of being stashed in the bottom of a purse. The only problems I had with it were (1) the battery life (2) storage (3) and freezing up.
After three years, it now only has about an hour of playing time, two if you're careful. But if you're only planning to have it for about a year or so, it shouldn't be a problem.
One GB isn't a lot of room, and I could never get more than 170 songs on it, but a 2 GB memory chip isn't that expensive and it's really easy to install.
I only had it freeze up on me a couple of times, and all I had to do was remove the battery to get it working again. Just a minor frustration.
Now it should be noted that it can only be charged by hooking it up to a computer, and you cannot delete songs without doing the syncing it. You CAN, however, delete the whole library on the device....
All-in-all, I was very pleased with my purchase and would definitely reccomend this product to anyone.

(More customer reviews)I was considering buying an mp3 player, this would be the first one, and I did a lot of research. I was looking at the Sony HD1, the Creative 30gb Zen Xtra, the Iriver one, and this one. When I learned that the Creative player usually fell apart between one and two years, I decided against it. All of the Hard Drive based players that I looked at had internal batteries and therefore, after about a year, the battery life was shot and the player was useless. Therefore, I decided that I needed a replaceable battery player.
This small player 3" x 1.3" x 1" has all of the features I wanted, and is fairly easy to use. In my winXP computer, I could transfer mp3's into folders on the device and each folder acted as an album. There was no software to install. In the player, you can navigate to different folders, and then play those folders or indevidual songs in those folders.
Unlike the sony player, this player will play MP3's any way you have them on your PC, this means VBR mp3's too.
Also, unlike the Creative player, you can choose to have the player display information from the ID3 tags, or from the file name, so if your mp3s aren't set up well, its no problem.
The buttons are a littel confusing in the begining, but after 5min, I could use it perfectly. Also, it can be used left handed to right handed, the LCD rotates.
There are many play modes that you might want like Shuffle and Repeat. These are all easy to use. Overall, a very nice player. I would buy again. 1gb is enough space to switch files in and out, and since the battery wont die like a HD model, and the HD wont die either, I think it's the best choice.

-can store any media on the drive like a flash drive

A good friend of mine had purchased several Sansa's for his kids and highly recommended them. After owning the Sansa Fuse for several months it's the best $50.00 I've spent on MP3 players. It smokes the IPOD for the money. I like the IPOD ear-buds better but that's it (and I consider that to be very minor)! The Fuse I bought came with an extra 2GB card too.

I got mine from Amazon for $108, Newegg didn't have it in stock at the time:-( Anyway great little mp3 player, I was considering the Creative Muvo N200 and the Muvo TX FM both 512MB models, both have radio also and cost about the same as the sandisk, the N200 has a line in, the TX FM doesn't. The Muvo TX FM can also be used as a flash drive for moving files of any type and does not need a cable to connect to a pc. They are nice products, but after I saw them in a store I realized that they were too small and the screens were microscopic.

I have perfect eye sight but I am so accustomed to my Iriver IMP-350's nice remote with good display size( a CD MP3 player). I looked at the manuals of the creative Muvo's and the sandisk SDMX1-512 and was able to see that the interface and menus of the Sandisk player was superior to the Creative Muvo's. [...] I also considered the Iriver flash players, but they were too expensive(still are). I have only used my Sandisk player for 2 days now and it has given me no problems.

The file transfer is very fast and the battery life seems pretty good so far. The battery is at 3/4 bars after 2 days of use, and it's the cheap alkaline battery that came with the player. I have one complaint, I wish it came with a neck strap like the creative Muvo's. I used a strap from an old pair of sun glasses. It comes with a nice clear plastic protective case and a set of cheap air phones, plus a nice velcro arm strap for all you joggers. The quick start manual is ok, the full manual if on the CD or the website. It's got a nice backlight and clear screen, sound quality is excellent and radio reception is very good, better than my Iriver IMP-350's reception.

The CD comes with musicmatch jukeboox version 9, I didn't even install it, it's crap, stick with winamp or media player. You don't have to install any drivers for windows xp. The entire screen flashes when transferring files, which is super fast. Voice recording is ok, I wish it had radio recording like the creative models though.
This player is great and cheap, go for it, you won't be sorry:-)

Having witnessed the phenomenon in others, I'm happy to see I'm not the only one (a psychologist could explain it better, but it probably stems from our post-toddler, invisible friend/stuffed animal days, but no matter). So if this little MP3 player could speak, I reckon it would probably say something like, "Hi there! I know I'm not as full-blooded as an iPod Touch or as sleekly designed as an iPod Nano, but I'll work real hard to make you happy. Honest!"
First, a bit of history: I've owned iPods since late 2003 when I bought a spanking new 15 GB third generation iPod. Back then, smart phones had yet to come of age and if you wanted a high-capacity MP3 player, Apple were just about the only game in town. It helped matters immensely that my iPod was so well constructed since I used it day in, day out for five years until it finally died and I replaced it with a fourth generation iPod Nano. That Nano sure *seemed* solid enough (what with its sleek, anodized aluminum body and all) but a mere year-and-a-half later it fell apart faster than Joan Crawford in a wire hanger factory (see "Mommie Dearest" for an explanation of that analogy). With hopes held high for an amazing sixth generation Nano, I balked at the rather stripped-down feature set and the tiny, nigh-unusable touch screen.
So, off a-shopping I did go.
Since Sony didn't appear to make a Mac-friendly Walkman, I opted to punt, snapping up the newly released Sansa Fuze+ (black, 8BG capacity). I'd known about -- and respected -- Sansa players for years as affordable and worthy iPod competitors, so this seemed the best available option. Whether consciously or not, SanDisk are filling a huge void in the marketplace right now caused by the absence of last year's multi-purpose fifth generation Nano (and as a student, I really, really needed its now long-gone voice recorder feature badly).
To define the negatives of this particular player: as many reviewers have pointed out, the Fuze+'s touch-sensitive interface can be a bit unresponsive at times and over-responsive at others. The GUI isn't anywhere near as intuitive as anything Apple could have designed. Furthermore, the industrial design is rather plain and the plastic is easily scratched (HINT: rub any scratches that appear on plastic with Brasso and a clean, lint-free cloth; after several minutes, it clears them right up -- promise!). That said...
Onto the positives: the sound quality from this thing is amazing -- rich and full! I've run battery tests only to have my jaw hit the floor when power usage on my unit clocked in at a WHOPPING 53 hours for 128 kbps MP3s and 30 hours for 256 kbps AAC files. This in itself is an astonishing discovery, particularly having come from the notoriously power-hungry iPod realm. This little fellow plays video beautifully, although the screen's visual "sweet spot" is at a slightly off-centre angle when watching a movie in Landscape mode. Also, it's got a voice recorder -- a good one -- that uses the unit's incredibly wee, shockingly responsive built-in microphone. While the Fuze+ won't win any beauty contests, it is enough for me to say that it *is* solidly constructed, having already dropped it several times without so much as scratching it (Brasso time!).
I give this player a solid recommendation -- especially (way) over the current iPod Nano -- keeping in mind that it is still quite new and there *are* flaws. However, SanDisk seems to really care about their customers, listening to their concerns and working hard to iron out the kinks. Their Website support forums are a good place to go for advice, especially considering that by buying any new first-generation product, you're essentially signing up to be a Beta tester.
It just comes with the territory, folks.

Pros:
-Looks
-Understanding of How It Works (simple to work)
-Can run on a battery or be plugged in
-Charges Ipod VERY Quickly- My Ipod will go from about 20% to 80% in about 30-45 minutes, and fully charged in 1hr
-Comes with Protectors so your ipod fits smoothly and isn't scratched
-You can plug in headphones and will stay at a comfortable volume, so you can charge it and listen at the sametime
-Option for either AM or FM Radio, Ipod, or Neither Radio Nor Ipod
-Will Fit any Ipod
-Nice, Large and 'Clicky' Buttons
-Extremely Nice Speaker Quality!!!
-Nice for Indoors And/Or Outdoors (Keep in mind it's not waterproof...)
-Allows you to set Either One or Two Alarms
-Nice Sized Screen (I believe it's 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches)
-Will Allow you to Use your ipod for anything (that doesn't include a microphone) while charging
-Very Durable
-Long Cord and Antennae (antennae is a small, thin wire, not an extendable metal tube)
Cons:
-Bright Light when both on and off- will light up a completely dark room as if you had on a low brightness lamp
-Very Very loud alarm- Can be heard from another floor (no settings to change that)
-Does not fit Ipod Touch (probably not classic either) when there is a Skin or Cover on it (Ipod)
-Somewhat Large and Heavy- Not expected for travel
-Sometimes you may have to re-adjust the ipod for it to charge
-Sometimes radio will be fuzzy if you don't touch or are near the Docking Device
Well, I see I really only have a lot of good things to say about this... Not all these pros and cons will apply to everyone (some people may never listen to the radio, use the alarm, etc.) So remember that for every review you read, it applies to that person, and may only tell you certain things that will apply to you.

This device remembers where you left off on each book you store on the device. The battery easily lasts the whole day and it's just the right size to fit in my front pocket making it very portable. I have it in one of those clear plastic protective cases and use it around my farm almost all the time. I did try watching a movie once but the screen is just too small. Same for pix.

Griffin TuneFlex AUX w/Dock Connector for iPod Review

(More customer reviews)Okay, since I have only owned this for a week and it is already "breaking", it should get a 1 Star rating. However, there are some positives to it and maybe you will get one that holds up.
I wanted an iPod charging unit and had no need for the FM transmitter so I went with this unit. I have an AUX (auxillary) jack on my car stereo and you can't get any better sound quality from an iPod than playing through it. Plus, It was much cheaper than purchasing a unit with an FM transmitter. PROS:
1) The Design. Flexible neck. Good height, about 8 inches, and it allows the unit to be easily moved around to not interfere with radio or Air conditioning controls. When I first plugged it in I thought "This is great. A good sturdy unit" I was wrong though...see the CONS.
2) the AUX jack. You can plug the mini-stereo cord into the front of the cigarette lighter charger plug and then into your AUX (auxillary) jack of your stereo. That way you only have to drop the iPod in and take it out. No cords to plug in and out.
CONS:
1) The plug for the cigarette lighter has a big rubber gasket on it to "prevent slipping". The problem? It only worked for about a week before the rubber would no longer stay stiff enough to keep the unit from swinging to the right or left and having the iPod hang upside down!!
I was very disappointed this product only lasted a Week and have now printed a return label to send it back.
I was worried that this might eventually become a problem. I just had no idea it would only take a week for the rubber gasket/cigarette port to start sliding. Just as a note, it does stay IN the socket, put it doesn't stay stationary (it swings/slides) so it is not a stable unit for my iPod.
2) The hi/low switch and AUX jack. I found my sound quality was louder and clearer if I plug the stereo cable in between the headphone jack of the iPod and the AUX jack on the stereo. If I plugged it in to the charger unit, on Low power, it sounded very muffled. On high power, it sounded "okay" but not as good or loud as using the headphone jack.So, I am not getting back online to find an alternative unit. I'll probably have to purchase a 'fixed' position unit that also has an FM transmitter because that seems to be the majority of what is out there. We'll see.
Bottom line, I cannot suggest this unit to anyone because it doesn't function as described.
I just bought one of these for my wifes car too (a Nano version). We'll see if it lasts.

Zune Dock Review

(More customer reviews)I received this item as a gift and, out of the box, it is little more than a sleek decorative puck. In other words, the dock does not include *any* cables, not even the Zune sync cable. Oh, it will hold the Zune upright though. It will also hold the Zune remote (sold *separately*.)
Once I collected the cables I needed (sync, plus either A/V or 3.5 to 3.5) the dock is working fine. I have nothing against the product, I just wish it came with at least the basic accessories out of the box.

No US radio stations can broadcast on frequencies lower than 88.1, so now I don't have to worry about interference!
To switch this unit to international mode, press and hold both the plus and minus (+ and -) buttons at the same time. To solve the mystery of how you can get gain out of what might appear to be a omni-directional whip: This is a collinear antenna which has coils built into it so that it acts like several vertical antennas are stacked on top of one another, each creating more gain as the radiation pattern is squashed down into the shape of a toroid or doughnut so that little power is received or transmitted either directly above or below the antenna and instead concentrated in a band around the center. If the Wi-Fi antenna you want to receive from is elevated above you then you would want this kind of a antenna to be swiveled in such a manner as to put the whip at a 90 degree orientation to the remote station to allow signal reception or transmission off of the sides of the whip where the power is greatest.
Due to the way the receive and transmit pattern is in the shape of a toroid or doughnut this type of antenna can give good gain while at the same time being omni-directional, except above and below the antenna where you don't need to waste the power anyway. If you want a antenna which has much higher gain look for a more directional antenna such as the flat panel antennas, Yagi or a parabolic reflector type of antenna which depending upon the size, can have 20 dB (or more) of gain which is a factor of 100 making a 100 milliwatt or 1/10 of a watt signal seem as powerful as a 10 watt signal, or a 1 watt signal as powerful as 100 watts. If you buy a flat panel Wi-Fi antenna and get one rated for 20 dBi of gain the half power beam width for both receive and transmit will be about 20 degrees. With a 20 dBi gain flat panel directional antenna, if you point it 10 degrees to the left or right from where it should be pointed for maximum signal you will have the equivalent of 17 dB of gain but that apparent gain will quickly drop off the further away the antenna is pointed from the proper direction. Note: It is a coincidence that a 20 dBi gain antenna has a 20 degree wide half power beamwidth, normally gain and half power beamwidth do not correlate to the same numbers except in the case of a 20 dBi gain antenna.
If you want to receive or transmit to two different locations at the same time but want each to have the best signal possible using a single high gain flat panel antenna, you can cut the difference between them sacrificing some of the gain to each one and point the antenna to an area in the middle. As long as the two stations are close enough together to be within a healthy portion of the antennas area of gain this should work out fine. Obviously, you wouldn't expect to be able to use that antenna for two different locations if one was behind you and the other in front but if both are within 30 degrees from you and not too far away a 20 dBi gain antenna could be used by cutting the difference between them. If they are too far separated in azimuth direction from you use a high gain collinear antenna with more power on each end, or perhaps using a lower gain antenna which has a much wider beamwidth or separate antennas for each radio shot. You can also use a splitter designed for 2.4 GHz and combine the receive and transmit from two separate antennas together into one feedline going back to your equipment, if necessary, but there will be a 3+ dB penalty or loss of signal level when doing so but to me this seems like the best solution if you need all the gain you can get from a flat panel or highly directional antenna to each station when using a common or single Wi-Fi transmitter and receiver such as a LinkSys or other wireless router.
Here is a good rule of thumb for line of sight radio shots without buildings or other terrain in between, every time you half the distance you increase the received power from a remote location by six dB, or if you double the distance you lose six more dB of signal level. In areas where there are trees and buildings or hills between each location this rule does not apply as the signal losses can be very great for short distances.

I was extremely skeptical that it would work - "auto sound" retailers had generally bad mouthed this type of product. And, i had tried something like this years ago, when the first generation of Ipods came out. But the alternative for my wife's car (Boxster) was to put in a new and different radio - more than $800 in this case! I saw that there were some used/reconditioned versions of the product available on Amazon, and decided to try it.
IT WORKS PERFECTLY. My wife loves it. Ok, so you have some loose wires in the front seat, but my concerns about static and losing the station, blah, blah, have not surfaced. And, it is great that you can program up to 3 empty stations on your FM radio, just in case you travel through an area where the radio loses the signal you're using. But my wife sez that never happens anyway.
So, I give this product 2 thumbs up!!

When it came to listening to it in my office I was limited to just speakers. After looking on Amazon I discovered the docking adapter that makes it easy to use one of the I-pod speaker docks that many retailers sell. It works great and I can listen to my I-pod during the day and with a flip of the switch on the adapter I am able to charge it at night! Great product and highly recommended.
