Would have been nice if this had a clip but no big deal. It also works in my car to play music which was an added bonus. All in all great deal!

Sony NWZB105FWHI 2GB Walkman MP3 Player (White) Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased the NWZ-B105 from Sony directly right after it was released. I bought it because I've had good experiences with Sony audio products in the past, and because it allowed for drag-and-drop or WMP11 play of your MP3 or WMA files. It's also one of the few OLED display players that lets you browse by folder, supports playlists, has voice recording, and excellent sound quality. I don't need JPG or movie playing, just something to use while exercising.
When I received it, I plugged it directly into my laptop, transfered about 1GB of music using WMP11 (the player is a 2GB model), and then listened for a while - sounded great, very close on par to Cowon/iAudio music players. Was very happy, until I decided to check out the Sony's other functions. First I tried voice recording, and got the message that the memory was full...well, no, it wasn't - I only transfered a GB...so I decided the reformat the player from the player's menu (the instructions warn you to NOT reformat the player using Windows) and apparently that pushed the player over the edge. It froze up - pressing the Power button after that only resulted in "Creating Database" and "Boot Error" messages flashing on the screen. I plugged it into my computer and it wouldn't even recognize it as a drive. Doing a pin Reset of the unit did absolutely nothing.
So I called Sony tech support, who told me to send it in for repair. No way was I going to go for weeks without a player, so I said no, I'll just return it, and they told me to call the customer returns number. I asked if I needed a confirmation number or something of that sort to indicate that I've already run the unit past tech support, and the rep said, "No, just call the number." So I called the Returns number and after being on permahold, and the rep answered and asked me, "Do you have an Event number?" I said, "No, the tech support guy said I didn't need one." The Returns rep said, "You need an event number to get an RMA." Sigh. So I had to call tech support AGAIN, get an event number, then call Returns again, to finally get the RMA number. Plus I have to pay for return shipping, even though the unit is clearly defective.
Definitely not the product quality or service experience I expected when buying from a higher-end company like Sony. I know the player was just newly released, but for it to malfunction like that is just a pain and I'm way hesitant to make another investment in Sony players again because of the hassle.

Philips GoGear Ariaz 8 GB MP3 Player (Silver) Review

(More customer reviews)This is actually a review of a GoGear Aria. This is my first MP3 player so all comparisons will be to other kinds of devices.
1) The radio reception is terrific: so much better than any of the other armband-type radios I've had that there's really no comparison.
2) Charges fast with 8 or more hours battery time.
3) Sound with the earbuds that come with it is kind of flat, but I never use earbuds anyway. Sound with my own (I'm currently using JVC hanger-style) is great.
4) Obviously, there's plenty of memory.
5) The "buttons" don't work well, or at all, if the player gets too cold or goes unused for any period of time. This is easily remedied by carrying it close to your skin. This is a fairly minor annoyance and the reason I gave it a 4 star rating.
6) Images on the screen are bright and clear.
7) There is a 4- minute voice recording feature which works quite well.
8) My desktop runs Windows 7, and the two seem to be pretty well synched - I have had no problems getting it going or downloading from my library. Transfers from Overdrive (audiobooks through my local library) is fast and easy.
9) It has no capacity for "bookmarking," although it will resume where you left off; there's no click wheel or any other way to fast forward other than to hold down the FF button, which can get pretty agravating if you need to get half way through a one-hour track which is common with many audiobooks.
Overall, I really like it, use it constantly, and am very satisfied with my purchase.

(More customer reviews)The Sony NWZ-S616 has a lot of good going for it, and I'd recommend just a few improvements.
Good: Excellent battery life, beautiful screen, navigation and buttons very intuitive (dedicated volume button a HUGE plus), and really top-notch sound quality - I'd rank it right up there with iAudio/Cowon mp3 players easily. The ability to support playlists, and its wide array of music play options is a plus (play by genre, year, artist, album, etc). Big plus is drag-and-drop capability (on a PC). No proprietary software needed. Nice form factor, too - not as thin as an iPod nano (3 gen) but, not as wide either.
Lacking: Needs a firmware update so you can delete files from the player! Really, there ought to be a way to delete accidentally uploaded music that you just don't care to listen to without having to hook the player up to your PC. Not good. Another firmware update suggestion would be to make possible a way to preview the next song (correct me if I'm wrong, but I couldn't find a way to do this).
Also, it would be nice to have the option to buy some accessories for the player, but noooo...Sony's dragging its feet on getting these available to the public, and at this time, no third-party accessories to be found.
Overall, a great player with a lot of upside if you're looking for great sound quality and flexible play options.

Philips AJ3980 AM FM CD Clock Radio Review

(More customer reviews)I spent ALOT of time looking at different models of radio alarms, and none of them had all of the features I wanted, so it seems like there is always a compromise. Since this slick little model was philips latest offering, I assumed it would have all the features of the previous models, it did not. It also has problems with the speakers, both were fuzzy and distorted on different operation modes, cd, tuner... I believe this to be a defect, not a by-design issue.
The Pros: The sound, when it did function correctly, was crisp and had a nice full range of reproduction. It wont replace a bookshelf system, but works quite well for bed side, although the opposite firing speakers do not reproduce stereo sound, it does have a standard mini-headphone jack. The display was large and quite readable from many angles. The touch screen display added some coolness value but you dont really want to have to look at a bedside alarm to operate it, you want to go by feel, fuhgetaboutit with the onscreen controls.
The Cons: Brightness control, why dont they make a light that you can turn off entirely and just press a button for momentary illumination? Even at its lowest brighntess setting which is about 30 or 40 percent dimmer then normal, its still not all that dim and could cause some annoyance at night, although the amber display is less obtrusive than the previous model's electrolumenescent blue. It only has five fm presets. no adjustable snooze, no weekend alarm defeat option, three minute internal power failure back-up, pathetic when my four year old laptop keeps better time when it has no power for a month. Those are my biggest complaints.
Overall it is a well constructed item with the obvious caveat for the defective sound ouput. I should also mention that I wasnt pleased with the cd latching mechanism. It uses a cheap plastic push down lock connector that doesn't seem to inspire longevity. Overall a well built item but I'm disappointed with the lack of certain features and ended up returning it due to the defective sound output, I ordered the previous model and am waiting for delivery now...

Teac MC DX32i - Micro system with iPod cradle - radio / CD Review

(More customer reviews)I recently purchased this for my office. I wanted a small system with good sound that I can hook my ipod to. The system has good sound quality for its size. It is very easy to hook up. The only issue I find with it is that you need to point the remote directly at the stereo in order for it to work. This does not seem to be a problem for me as the stereo is in direct eye site of my desk about 30 feet away. The remote does allow you to work all the features of the ipod many other systems only allow basic functions. I am impressed with the sound quality and it provides plenty of volume to fill my office with music which is aprox. 700 sqft. One of the best stereo's I could find for the price, that included the features I required. "I purchased at Costco was less expensive." I would purchase this product again.

Apple iPod nano 8 GB Purple (4th Generation) Review

(More customer reviews)Just purchased the 8G 4th generation Nano for my 14yr old. He loves it but has expressed concern about the battery life. Not a serious issue but be advised it does not last as long as previous Nano's. Also, the traditional USB based charging accessories do not charge this device. Only a standard computer based USB port seems to work. We tried to use various older ac-usb,battery pwr USB, DC-usb nothing charged it. Seems Apple decided to wire the pwr to the USB pins and not the firewire. Has caused another "Apple" generated situation where you have to go out and purchase product specific accessories.

SanDisk Sansa Fuze 4 GB Video MP3 Player (White) Review

This device remembers where you left off on each book you store on the device. The battery easily lasts the whole day and it's just the right size to fit in my front pocket making it very portable. I have it in one of those clear plastic protective cases and use it around my farm almost all the time. I did try watching a movie once but the screen is just too small. Same for pix.
