(More customer reviews)The sound on this system is good and it is not to difficult to use outside of how easy it shorts out when an iPod is connected to it. The memory is also entirely rebooted when the power goes out or when it shorts out. If you do not put the iPod into the dock at the correct angle it will cause the unit to trip. It is a pain. I have given u trying to reprogram radio stations because it happens so often. Quite a hassle.

I wanted something to play both through headphones and a few different FM radios and this does exactly that and very well. I don't care about viewing videos, pictures or text but it does those things very well too. It seems to be well made and 99% intuitive, I figured almost everything out without cracking the instruction booklet.

Latte's Espresso portable media player may charm with its elegant gun-metal finish and sleek form factor, but it's what's under the hood that counts. 3-inch LCD Touchscreen Enjoy your favorite videos or pictures and navigate with ease on the Espresso's 3-inch touchscreen display with 420 x 240 pixel resolution.

And of course the Espresso supports ID3 tages (versions 1 and 2) for displaying song info while you listen. If you're a lyrics obsessive, you'll appreciate the LRC file support for displaying the words to your favorite tunes.
Finally, you can dial in your sound with the on-baord EQ, featuring seven settings: Normal, Rock, Pop, Classic, Bass, Jazz, MS Play-FX.
Video Player Take your favorite videos with you and enjoy them anywhere with the Espresso's brilliant screen. You'll get about four hours of video playback on a single charge.
Once again, the Espresso delivers on format support: AVI, RM/RMVB, FLV, WMV, 3GP, MPG, DAT, and MP4 formats are all supported, so you can enjoy more video with less conversion.
Picture and Text Viewer Browse and view your favorite images in JPEG, BMP and GIF formats. Zoom in and out or play a slideshow for friends.
The Espresso's text viewer lets you change fonts/colors, set and recall bookmarks, and even auto-browse through multiple files in the interval you set.
Naturally, you can keep the tunes rolling while you enjoy these features.
FM Transceiver The Espresso boasts an FM Transceiver, meaning you can both transmit and receive FM radio. This means you can play your favorite songs and tune in the nearest radio (in your living room, car, etc.) to your Espresso.
As for standard FM radio, you're also covered, complete with user station presets and FM recording--record your favorite show for later enjoyment.
Voice Recorder Record voice memos, meetings, lectures, or anything else you decide to point the built-in microphone at directly to your espresso in WAV format.
Easy File Transfer and Portable Storage Enjoy transfer speeds of up to 4MB/S thanks to the Espresso's USB 2 interface. Windows2000/XP/Vista are all supported, and no driver is necessary for the latter two.
You can also use the Espresso as a USB storage drive for taking a few choice files with you.

Memorex Mi4004 iWake Clock Radio for iPod (White) Review

(More customer reviews)I recently bought this unit in red (it's also available in purple, blue, white, and black) at Target. It was on clearance for $39, more than 50% off the original price. At the sale price, it is well worth it. I have not experienced any technical malfunctions (such as the clock resetting for no reason). I suspect those were unusual cases experienced by a few buyers. Maybe Memorex quality control isn't so good. Nonetheless, my unit has worked as advertised.
The positives about this unit are:
*Excellent value if you get it on sale
*The sound is decent (not excellent by any means, but good enough if your main purpose is to use it as a clock radio)
*Looks nice and the size isn't too large or too small
*Easy to set time and alarms
*Has two alarms and takes two AAA batteries for emergency backup
*Comes with 5 adapters to fit all sorts of iPod devices. For older Nano (which I have), it's best to use the adapter that came with the Nano. But you don't necessarilly need to use a docking adaptor at all
*Radio tuner has scan function to find stations
*The alarm starts the volume level at 0 and progressively moves up one notch every 5 seconds. I don't know why a couple of people criticized this function by saying that the unit begins playing at level 5; mine does not. Maybe Memorex fixed this issue. In any case, I love this function. I don't like being jolted out of bed by music that's too loud. This unit gently escalates the volume until it's enough to wake you...I like that.
*Comes with a cute little remote control unit.
*Has a headphone jack and a line-in jack. I don't use these often but they come in handy once in awhile.
*Backlight has a dim and bright setting. The dim setting is fine for night use. The bright setting is very visible during the day (but too bright for night). Not sure who would think the dim setting is bright...again...maybe this was a problem with a previous model. Mine is fine.
*Has a daylight savings time switch. You can automatically move the time up 1 hour or back 1 hour with a single slide of the switch...no need to reset the clock entirely. A small thing but helpful.
The negatives are:
*No radio station presets. I don't find this to be a major issue because I only use this as an alarm clock and tend to leave the same station selected. However, being able to preset some radio stations would have been helpful.
* The sound, while okay, isn't what you would get from a Bose, Sony, or Altec Lansing. Then again, consider the price difference...

The only feature I did not get was an audio out so that I could plug in my external speakers. Hence, only four stars. I use Pandora and other iTouch apps that play music, and they all work seamlessly. The sound is remarkably good, especially considering the size. Also a plus is the support that stabilizes the iTouch when it is docked. You don't feel like you will break off the connectors when you push on the iTouch.
