(More customer reviews)The doc extender cable was exactly what I was looking for. I have an XM Dock in my car for satellite radio that I typically use with my iPhone. After purchasing the iPad, I thought it would be pretty cool to see if I could use it with the XM Dock. Rather than modifying the XM Dock, I decided to buy the extender to connect to the iPad. Now my iPad acts as an in car entertainment system for my family on long trips. Now we can use the satellite radio, the iPod, watch movies, etc all while the iPad charges.

Philips Fidelio DS8550 Speaker System for iPod/iPhone/iPad (Silver/Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I have the older model (DS8500) and I was absolutely thrilled with it until I got this model. The sound on this model is just as amazing as the old one and this one has features that blows the older model away.
Here are the reasons I feel the DS8550 is worth the higher price:
+ Bluetooth capability: I can keep my phone right next to me while using the docking station so I get the best sound possible but I still have the ability to keep my phone close (texting, calendar, etc.) The sound will be interrupted for calls and such but I won't have to get up to look at the docking station to see who is calling or texting or to use any other function of my phone).
+ Portability: The docking station can be charged and taken anywhere. I can easily bring it into another room/outside without having to unplug it and find another outlet. The carrying cutout on the back makes it easy to move around too.
+ The older version had a mesh type fabric over the speakers which wasn't sturdy. I was always afraid something would bump into it and rip it. This model has a metal frame which I find much more attractive and durable.
+ Controls: The controls on the station are sturdier than the older model. The older model had a thin strip of metal that ran across the bottom of the station. Over time it bent a little bit. Not a huge issue at all, just something that now seems 'cheap' in comparison to the new model.
This model is ipad compatible and comes with a separate stand if you want to use the bluetooth capability. I keep the stand next to the docking station and use it to hold the remote.
The Fidelio ap works OK but I don't see the need for it.
Overall the sound is AMAZING and the new features make this docking station by far the best I have ever used.

Monster iCarPlay Wireless 1000 FM Transmitter for iPod and iPhone Review

(More customer reviews)I was a little hesitant to spend $100 on an FM transmitter, but I had a gift card so why not? The auto-tune scans quickly, but it is frustrating. Maybe it is because Pittsburgh seems to have a ton of radio stations, but I'm sure no more than any other bigger city. It has a hard time picking a frequency that will allow me to drive the 8 miles from my office to home without having to stop and rescan. Sure I could use the presets to store three stations, but that's assuming this transmitter can overpower them.
One other thing is that the signal it broadcasts is pretty faint: you have to crank the volume up on the radio to hear the audio clearly. Your poor ears will suffer if the radio frequency suddenly overpowers the transmitter! My Griffin Technologies Navigate inline FM radio and remote doesn't require a massive volume setting to work and it uses the same docking connector.
I'll keep it for another week and see if the problem is the user and not the product, but I hope there are better options.

iHome App-Enhanced Alarm Clock with Bluetooth and FM Radio for iPad, iPhone and iPod Review

(More customer reviews)Warning: Most of the truly worthwhile features for this alarm clock are only functional through the iPhone / iPad App ("iHome+Sleep" App on iTunes store). Without the app, it's merely an expensive speaker system with a clock (and not a very accurate one, either). I have had the iA100 for over two months now and unfortunately, the app is extremely buggy and erratic and the direct support from iHome has been completely useless and unresponsive. This makes the iA100 less useful and less worthy of its $[...] price tag.
I recommend you refer to the following support threads on iHome's own support forums before considering this item:

Do a search for more on the iA100 topic and you'll find similar issues with similar concerns. You'll notice that these and other postings have almost zero responses from iHome support except for one (which was not specific or helpful in any way). Direct emails to their tech support (I've sent three over the past two months over the same issues posted) go ignored. I intend to call directly, however I read a customer's posting that the phone support lacks adequate knowledge about the product, software app or remedies, and were advised to post their question on the iHome support forums for better response. This tells me that they have a limited staff and relies solely on their support forums for communicating with customers.
Needless to say, I'm very disappointed with this purchase considering it's a pretty expensive, high-end alarm clock that is customized to work with your iPad / iPhone. People on the forums have complained that their iA100s are unreliable for daily use. I simply can't rely on mine either due to the problems noted in the forum postings. I'm assuming people are merely using the iA100 as a $[...] speaker system for now. I personally wouldn't mind the time needed to gradually improve their iHome App, but it would be appropriate (and for $200, they should be obligated) to respond to customers with some kind of confirmation, remedy, workaround, or timeline to the fixes posted on the iHome support forum.
I'll be happy to update this post when iHome promptly responds to these and other support postings regarding similar issues regarding the app.
In the meantime, purchase this at your own risk!

(More customer reviews)When I added an Ipod interface to my 2010 Forester I was a little surprised to find that the supplied Ipod cable only ran about an inch and a half out of the console. While it was possible to connect the Ipod to this short, stubby cable it meant having to turn the light on in the car, turn around and really work at doing it. Even after attaching it, my Ipod touch just dangled in the console pocket- not exactly an elegant way to position it. I looked long and hard and was very surprised that there really are not that many Ipod extension cables out there that transfer both data/music *and* charge the Ipod. Because this was the only item I could find that clearly stated that it could do both, I was a little hesitant to try it but sure enough, it does exactly what it says it should do. Have had it for about a month now and have had no problems with the construction so far. For my purposes, it did the trick! Recommended.

(More customer reviews)I never know what to expect with apple-compatible devices. Over the years, I've found some that are very good and some that are just a step above useless. So I was pleasantly surprised by this rechargeable speaker system from iHome. Physically the unit is lightweight, yet reassuringly sturdy, meaning it's easy enough to move from place to place but also solid enough to survive constant relocation. The rubberized base eliminates any slipping - when you place it on a flat surface, it's going to stay there.
The system has several features which work well and provide flexibility of use. First of all, it's not only a speaker system, but also serves as a recharging port for your iPhone, iPod or iPad when the unit is plugged into an outlet. Then again, the speaker system has its own rechargeable battery, which means it can play your music anywhere, even when an outlet it not close at hand. The universal dock worked well with all of my various i-devices (I have five) and there is also a line-in jack for CD players, MP3 players, or other audio devices. The unit also works with remote control devices, although none is included. As an added feature, this system will operate with the free alarm clock app iHome+Sleep and also with the internet radio app iHome+Radio.
The most important thing about a speaker system of course is the sound quality, and this unit is about the best I've heard in it's price range. While it does not have separate controls for bass and treble level, the sound clarity is high and the bass processing very good. Overall I am very pleased with this unit - it's much more than I expected at this price point.

Philips Docking system DC291/37 for iPod, iPhone and iPad (Aluminium) Review

(More customer reviews)I was looking around for something to replace my "Moshi" talking alarm clock. I wanted something with a nice display, and realized that I had all these nice clock apps on my iPads (both 1st and 2nd gen for my son and I). So I started looking for better options that could use my iPad. Found several, but most were ones that held it from all sides, so would be impossible, problematic, or just loose with the newer generation of iPads. I didn't need rotation - I have no need to have it displayed in landscape, so finally found this one here. Nowhere mentioned specifically iPad 2 compatibility, but after some google searches, found a webpage at one of the main electronic brick and mortars, which DID list the compatibility. So I found one locally, picked it up at their store, and brought it home.
Unpacking was easy, 2 AA batteries for the power loss backup. Getting it set up took about 2 minutes, including setting both my alarms, one for when I need to get up at my time, one for when I have to get up at my son's time. It supports 12 or 24 hour format display. Easy to see what alarm is on, time, and setting. So for a standalone alarm clock, it was very quick and easy to set up. And all of it can be done either on the unit or on the remote. Even the brightness can be adjusted from the remote, including shutting off the clock display altogether.
Then came the fun, and I plugged my iPad 2 on top of it. Instantly was charging. Changed the input to the iPad, and bang, there's my music. And I almost soiled myself at the volume levels and bass this unit puts out. I guess I'm so used to the tinny sounds from the iPhones and iPads, that while I was expecting more out of the dock, I didn't expect THIS much. Outstanding sound, 5 equalizer presets, fantastic bass response. Best at low to mid levels, but while it does get louder than I'd ever play it, the bass does get a bit muddied at those levels. I could've probably been tweaking it with the presets and the extra bass setting it offers, but didn't worry about it.
Fired up a few of my alarm clock apps, and all work just fine, sound comes out of the dock's speakers and everything is good. So now I can have a regular alarm clock OR use the iPad. Either way I'm set, and now have the added ability to listen to music while reading in bed... iPhone 4 had the same results.
All told I got this for a fraction of the list price since I had some points to spend with this particular brick and mortar, but even had I paid Amazon's price, or the $20 higher full price at this particular store I would've been happy. Worth every penny.

(More customer reviews)Until this alarm clock I have lived off of watch, iPod, and iPhone alarms. This is my first ever real alarm clock... and I really like it! The clock looks very nice, with a sleek black and silver design. The buttons and display are nice sizes, and I really like the many levels of dimness offered. The remote is handy and has a snooze button on it! The sound quality of the speakers is good too, with a great deal of control over the volume. The back of the alarm lets you do a time sync (you can do this through the app too), set DST, and set the timezone. It comes with two antenna, one for AM and one for FM.
The iHome can function without a device plugged in, but the app makes this device so much more fun to use. Yes! You get an app! The iHome app allows you to add additional alarms (the clock has two, turned off by default), check the weather forecast, check sleep stats, + some more stuff. The alarms are fully customizable, allowing you to set a flexible repeating schedule, listen to music as you fall asleep or wake up, set the volume for the alarms, choose a nap or alarm type of alarm, set reminders, and post your sleeping habits to social media sites (I don't know why you'd use that, but it's there if you want it). The app is free so you could download it right now and give it a shot before committing to the device.
I do have three complaints thus far: one, the time does seem to have trouble with consistency. I set it last night and this morning it was one minute off. Could get annoying if you need precision. Two, when you set music to play while you go to sleep, it reduces the volume slightly every few minutes (actually, probably a percentage of the sleep timer). Which is kind of cool - except that it gets too quiet. Right when I should be falling asleep I find myself straining to hear the last few minutes of music. Finally - there has to be some way to fix this - the snooze button also doubles as the play button. Fine, except when I am trying to hit snooze and instead of blessed silence I find Hayley Westenra singing in my ear.
I used this device exclusively with my iPhone in its hardshell case. I kept meaning to try it with my iPad, but in the end I just couldn't think why I would ever use it that way while I have an iPhone. But whatever device you use with this clock, I am sure you will enjoy it!
