(More customer reviews)Received this as a gift. Seems to have many neat and user friendly gadgets. The synching of the ipod to the main unit via blue-tooth technology is neat, but frankly not needed as you still need power cords, etc for each unit.
What I discovered as I turned it on is the sound was TERRIBLE. On the packaging it states 200watts, however, the amp pushes 45 watts max. Oh and... the speakers are two 1/2 inch tweeters, 2 1 and 1/2 inch mids and a non-existant sub.
Having neat packaging, blue-tooth capabilities and a head unit that magically slides to the right so you can load a CD is great but when the sound quality is like any other made-in-china gadget, I must say pass. Don't make the mistake of buying this piece of garbage.

Sony Ericsson Portable Speakers for Sony Ericsson W880, W900 Review

(More customer reviews)Given you have a Sony Ericsson Walkman phone with the dubious distinction of a fastport connector, you might be considering these as a portable speaker solution.
They are cute, small and seemingly well constructed, They come in plastic case about 5 X 2 X 1.5 inches and altogether weigh about 6.4 oz. The case will fit in a large pocket (think cargo pants). The speakers are powered from the phone which is nice because you don't need to lug extra batteries around. They sound a lot better than the built in speaker in my w300i and unlike the MPS-60 and MPS-75 speakers they act as an antenna for the FM radio.
but..
They don't sound that wonderful. I would say on par with a cheap pair of powered computer speakers. Good for their size but nothing special really. Fairly clean but no bass. Good stereo effect if positioned right but the equalizer effects on the phone hardly seem to make any difference to the sound of the speakers which they do with the headphones.
Not loud enough for a party but good enough for some quite listening when you want to give the headphones a rest.
They use up the phone battery quite fast so be careful when using them where you can't charge your phone. On the w300i the battery gets warm playing music for a while and the display and key backlight flickers when using the FM radio phone. I think they even drain the battery just being plugged in (I need to play with them some more to be sure) so be warned if you are thinking of taking these backpacking. The battery powered MDS60 or some other externally powered speakers might be a better choice or a bunch of spare batteries I suppose.
You can't charge your phone while using them.
They have no protective grille over the speakers. While this looks "cool", given their size and shape I think it will be very easy to accidentally put a finger through a speaker cone.
They can't be used with the CDS-65 desk stand (or the CSD-60 I suspect) as I was hoping. The fast port connector appears to be specially designed so that these items can't work together. Think there may be a technical reason to do with power charging but may be a fiendish plot to make you buy more accessories. I suppose this is not a big problem really since you can arrange to play the phone on your PC or stereo though the headset adapter if nothing else.
You also can't use the speakers with the CLA-80 car charger and presumably the CST-75 two port charger since they appear to share the same pass through fastport connector that allows you to use the handsfree headset while charging.
So overall a bit disappointing given the various limitations. Had hoped for better for the price

Jensen JiMS-125 Universal Docking Digital Music System for iPod (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)Problem #1: if the unit is set to play your iPod, the alarm will not function. That is, if you set the alarm, then fall asleep with your iPod playing, the alarm will not go off. The unit function switch must be set to "off" for the alarm to sound! And yes I double-checked the instructions to ensure I'm operating it correctly. For this reason alone it is useless as an alarm clock.
Problem #2: The iPod only charges when docked if the unit function switch is set to "iPod" i.e. if you want your iPod to charge while you listen to the radio, you can't do it. Also unacceptable
Problem #3: I have an iPod Touch, and it is really hard to get in the dock--worried I'm going to damage my iPod getting it into the dock.
Other problems include that the display is not dimmable and is super bright.
If by chance someone else owns this unit and I'm in error in any of the above please post and let me know!

However, upon receiving this little beast I was pleasantly surprised. BIG sound from such a small package. As to be expected from most portable speakers this small, the lack of big booming bass is evident, however, the remaining range is quite broad and crystal clear. Where this small monster excels is in its broad sound stage. No matter where I place it, even listening off to one side or the other, this beast paints a pretty broad sound stage. No notable off-center loss of any kind. Also, as some of the reviews out there noted, this thing has a truly high level of i-pod integration. Every adapter for every iPod imaginable is in the box, and man do they slip on easily. You can also update via computer with supplied cord but I don't do this since you have to place near your computer. Mine's in the bedroom currently. Supplied manual leaves something to be desired but what is lacking in instruction can be easily figured out. Just remember to place your iPod in one of the music modes such as "playlist" or "artists" prior to placing in the i.sound max. It does not default to music when placed in the stand and doing this gives you full access to the music. Highly recommended!!! Enjoy!!

One caution: most iPod dock-speakers can be quite "fussy" about which iPod models they choose to charge and play or simply play and not charge. Check on the return policy of the product, especially if it's not coming directly from Amazon, and be sure to test it frequently and thoroughly for the first couple of weeks. It's not entirely clear what distinguishes the newer Micro II from this 2008 model, but I would assume that the newer model has been minimally tweaked to cover some newer players. Also, although Amazon's prices are among the most reasonable anywhere, some bargains can occasionally be found in warranteed refurb models through the JBL store (located on that "other" big site). Finally, in answer to the purists who find any discussion of speakers used to play MP3 files without merit, there are many degrees of compression in MP3 files, with 128 kbps by no means the "norm." Moreover, even at 128 kbps the differences in the quality of sound is often as dramatic as night and day among some of these little overachievers.]
Presently this JBL On Stage Micro is going for 60% below the price of any other color, making it a no-brainer pick-up among docking speakers normally selling on Amazon for $100 or slightly more. JBL is a stylish, quality brand manufactured by Harmon International--durable, dependable, crisp-sounding. Despite the sharply divided reviews, the sound quality of virtually all speakers in the $80-$150 range is the same, with minor variations subject to differences in taste. I've found popular rechargeable units such as those made by Altec and Logitech to be unstable--sometimes changing iPod models will throw them off completely, requiring a reset with no guarantee of a fix. The JBL Micro, on the other hand, can be depended upon to deliver with either its AC connection or AA non-recharging alkalines.
Best disregard low-end merchandise--iLuv, GPX, Colby, J-Win and, unless you're looking for a clock radio, iHome. The sound is best described as "plastic-like," clearly inferior to a monaural speaker such as that of a Tivoli, Sangean, or Boston Acoustics radio. If you want a substantially improved system, one that goes beyond merely "covering" the entire frequency range to "reproducing" the sounds of the actual instruments, think more in the $200-300 range and look for a Klipsch iGroove, Athena iVoice, or Bose Sound Dock (the drawback--they're not for portable, battery use).
[In response to some misleading reviews: the JBL Micro has proven one of the more durable systems in its price range, and it comes with exceptionally smart packaging (form-fitting, padded storage bag with places for the adapter, remote and cord), guaranteed to make a great impression even before it's been used. Finally, it indeed DOES have a volume control--the left button for softer; the right for louder. Bass is admittedly weaker than some models in this range, but treble is superior and power is ample. If you hear cabinet "rattling," back off on the volume of your source; if you get a loud "hum," simply do an off-on reset. And hang on to the tiny remote (or learn how to live without it). Harmon's answer to my question about a replacement is usually, "It's out of stock."

Dislikes:
1. Contols for the radio and other featues only available via the remote
2. Remote distance is limited, I was hoping to have the unit inside the house near a window to the deck and control things via remote anywhere on the deck. Turns out I need to be about 5' or less from the window to work
3. volume is fairly low, need to turn the volume up to around 35 to play light level on the deck. Unit goes up to 60 and is fairly loud but might be a stretch for a large party
Overall good unit, I'm happy with it but wish the price was a little lower.

It certainly sounds better than the iHome (but don't expect an audiophile experience), but although it has a clock, a radio, and a sleep function, it doesn't have an alarm function to wake you to music. Seems silly not to include an alarm in a unit like this. I don't know what Logictech was thinking. I haven't had any of the failures other people have reported here. It seems to be working fine after using every day for about 1 month.

Jensen Jims-120-W Docking Digital Music System For Ipod Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this docking station with the understanding (as indicated in the description) that it would recharge an iPod Nano. But it won't recharge any new iPods (meaning anything produced within the past 12 or 14 months). The manual clearly states that it will charge iPod Nanos if the software is up to date, but this is not true. I telephoned the company that distributes it ([...]) and was told that there was a misprint in their manual and that there was nothing I could do about it. Amazon would not take it back because they do not themselves sell the product, and Spectra would not because 30 days had elapsed since I bought it (because it was a Christmas present for someone else and we did not realize its failings until January). If you have an old iPod that you have not upgraded, buy this, but otherwise do not.

The black system was $34.99. The pink is actually a pretty shade of dark pink (not as depicted here) and the design of this Ipod docking system is not too bad - even if it looks a little cheap - sort of like an updated am/fm radio from the 70's.
There are rotary dials for the volume and radio channels on the left and right side of the unit. The other push buttons are all located on the center part of the unit.
The sound is fair. You can choose to add extra bass or not. The volume is adequate for a small room - even a little too loud at full volume. The unit is portable and has a handle. It comes with a cord, so you don't need to use batteries for daily use.
I bought two of these and so far we've tested it with both an Iphone 3Gs and an Ipod Touch 32GB. There is some hissing as another reviewer noted, but it seemed to go away. I tried moving the radio dial and it seemed to help coincidentally. I will update this once I've tested it out more.
The sound is not spectacular, but if you can find this on sale for $25 or less, then it's a good deal.

It has worked without a problem and has a handy remote that has proved very uselfull for her to change selections from anywhere in her room.
I'm a huge fan of the Tivoli company and have been impressed with the sound from such a small bookshelf system.

You can really get the party started by plugging in a guitar and jamming, this is a guitar amp on top of everything! The look is so cute with great little details on the knobs showing a mic or a guitar for that particular knob purpose. As soon as it came out of the box, I sang for like an hour. Also I got a really good deal, only 24.95 for this instead of the 69.99 amazon price. Get this deal fast, it really is too good to be true.

(More customer reviews)When I received the item, I unpacked it & installed the batteries. I connected my daughter's iPod and the sound quality was good. There could have been more volume, but it was ok. There wasn't any bass or treble adjustments on this. I liked how the iPod songs could be forwarded & skipped via the buttons on the dock itself. I carefully repacked it & wrapped it for a Christmas gift. When my daughter opened it, she liked it. But when she tried to listen to the radio, it was all static. The next day, the radio portion would work, and then quit again. So, I ended up returning it to the store where I bought it. This was a very bacic, no-frills type of unit, but in fairness, the price was very low as well. If the unit worked as designed, we would have kept it.

Very ingenious design, wonderful audio, charges both Ipod and a set of NIMH batteries with wall wart, then you're untethered for hours of entertainment...Nice clock radio functions and superb AM FM radio as well as aux in for other devices. It is such a good match for Ipod, I have discovered sounds in my Ipod tunes I didn't know were there...
One BIG disadvantage...this doesn't have a kickstand or good support, so it is prone to tip over and spill out the Ipod from the dock. Make sure you have a safe surface to but this baby on...I am waiting for the iSoundbook case to come out for further protection...If it's like the case for the IPal it will be yet another bit of ingenious design...
This is also very expensive. Significant more than the other Tivoli Ipod products, but the stereo design and excellent charging options make it worth it...
It could be somewhat improved by offering a remote that could change between modes...as it is you have to turn the switch to AM, FM or Ipod/Auxillary before the remote will work. The remote has a nice feature (much better than Apple's IMHO) which allows you to move to the next playlist on your Ipod...
All in all, this is a great, innovative idea. To me it's much nicer than the Bose offering because it's portable with battery power, has a superb AM FM radio, and offers better stereo separation...And sound wise, I think it's a touch better in clarity...though the Bose seems to have a bit more bass...

The supplied remote control operates both the iPod with play list management, volume, illumination, mute and more and the iSongBook. It features a highly sensitive digital AM/FM tuner for North America and for use in Europe and a 9k/10k switch for AM reception outside North America. Includes manual tuning and 5 AM and 5 FM favorite station preset buttons with a "seek" function. It also features an "on-demand" blue backlit LCD display that shows the station tuning as well as the digital clock, whose functions include alarm and 20-minute sleep timer that can be set to wake or fall to sleep to an iPod as well as radio. Auxiliary input and stereo headphone output are positioned in the rear, complete with rubber covers to protect them from the elements, dust and dirt when not in use. The iSongBook operates on standard AA alkaline batteries or NiMH/NiCad rechargeable batteries with the unit's built-in charger; or by a supplied AC adaptor or 12V power source. It measures just 6-3/16" H x 11-1/16" W x 2-3/16" D.
