Planet Audio P265IU AM/FM/CD/MP3/Bluetooth Compatible Receiver with Full iPod Control Compatibility with Front USB Port and Full Detachable Face Plate Review

Planet Audio P265IU AM/FM/CD/MP3/Bluetooth Compatible Receiver with Full iPod Control Compatibility with Front USB Port and Full Detachable Face Plate
Average Reviews:

The "normal" functions of the radio including AM/FM and the CD player work just fine. However, I purchased this car audio receiver specifically for its full IPod compatibility, along with blue tooth. In order to use it with my IPod Touch the unit required a special Ipc40 integration cable, which I also purchased and installed. Initially, when I only had about 4-7 gigabytes of music on the IPod, the unit worked great and provided control of my IPod directly from the radio display. Now that I've got about 21 gigabytes of music on the IPod, the radio is unable to complete the "searching" function and just hangs in that mode. As a result of that failure, I am extremely disappointed with the unit.

Sony In-Dash CD Player (CDX-M620) Review

Sony In-Dash CD Player (CDX-M620)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The guy at my local audio store (we're friends) recommends these over JVC ELCHAMELEONS because the black panel is removable. ALWAYS remove it when parked. Thieves aren't dumb and figured out that the black panels where a stereo should be is actually the stereo. I have freinds who bought JVCs when they first came out, but they don't have removable faceplates and were all stolen within a year (3 friends=3 stereos). The sony looks just as cool when off, but when on you have to drop down the front panel to access the controls whereas on the JVC they pop out of the front "Active Black Panel" (Sony's name for it). You can close up the controls on either of these when the stereo is on, but sometimes the JVC will shut itself off. Both of these are awesome sounding stereos, but if you want it to last, buy the sony. Car stereos are my thing, and this is a primo head unit.

ThereM-^Rs no mistaking Sony distinction when it comes to in-dash CD receivers. This headunit is part of their Xplod series, which continues the tradition with features like an Active Black Panel or a stealth-styled detachable face, 52 watts x 4 of power, and 3 sets of pre-amp outputs. And for those who can never have enough variety in their sound, it has EQ7 with 7 equalizer presets and the ability to control an additional CD/MD changer, or a TV tuner.

XACT Visor Sirius Satellite Receiver and Remote with CAR and HOME kits - BXTR3CHK Review

XACT Visor Sirius Satellite Receiver and Remote with CAR and HOME kits - BXTR3CHK
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I put a Visor in my car as a replacement for my other Xact receiver, which was moved inside permanently after I got the boombox for it.
It's a cool little unit that has a bright, readable, flippable display and it takes about 4-5 minutes to set it up in your car. I went with the cassette adapter instead of using the built in FM transmitter, due to volume levels as well as the chance for interference from other vehicles. The transmitter worked well when I had it turned on, and gives you the bonus of being able to broadcast the signal to second car (as long as it stays close). It's perfect for road trips, and can be easily hidden or taken along if you're in an area that you don't want it showing. The only reason I took off one star is the display is pretty small, and, even though I can see why they did this, having only one knob to set everything up is a bit of a pain in the [..]. Otherwise, this is a great starter satellite radio if you want to get the feel of what all Sirius has to offer. Dropouts are few and far between, but you can't go crazy with it and park under a bridge for any length of time, but driving under one isn't a problem for me at all.
I absolutely LOVE Sirius and will not go back to terrestrial radio even if you paid me Howard Sterns' money.

If I could give this radio negative stars I would. I enjoyed this radio for 2 weeks! Then I put my boat in the water with my new MP3 playing radio with a new waterproof cover. Apparently the salt air was to much for this state of the art marine radio. It stopped working after 2 weeks!!!! Marine radio not so much. Where is the special coating mentioned in the description. Complete rip off!

SONY MEX-5DI CD Receiver for Car Stereo Review

SONY MEX-5DI CD Receiver for Car Stereo
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Let's start by getting the obvious out of the way. This cd player is gorgeous. From the chrome face and lcd screen, to the amount of features the Mex-5di offers, it's quite an amazing head unit. Cd/mp3 playback quality is great, but keep in mind that the Mex-5di has no built-in amplification, so for good sound quality you'll also need good aftermarket amplifiers.

The motorized cd tray is a nice touch, and coupled with Sony's G-protection, you'll never hear another distracting "chirp" of the cd skipping when you drive through a pothole.

Also nice is the ability to personalize your cd player with pictures and short movie clips. Sizing the movie clips for playback takes some work however, as the image cannot be over 64x64 bytes and cannot be more than 10 frames long. The Mex-5di is more flexible with still pictures, and will automatically size pictures to fit the display.

Most important to keep in mind is the fact that the short movie clips and slideshows will play back WHILE DRIVING, and it is completely legal for it to do so.

I do however have one complaint about this cd player, and that is the lack of a detachable face. For one, anyone who sees you drive by will most likely see your bright expensive cd player shining back at them. Sony did come up with an alternative method to deter theft, but without giving away what it is... let's just say it won't work, and without an alarm system on your car you'll spend a lot of time worrying about the safety of your cd player.

Also, I live in New England and in the winter the temperature in the car will often times drop below freezing. Without a detachable faceplate, the liquid crystal display is subject to the elements and it will freeze. This won't be a problem unless you turn the unit on while the temperature in the car is below freezing. When the Mex-5di's display turns on while the crystals are frozen, the rapid heating will cause the crystals to expand and crack, ruining the display. So remember to keep the unit off for a good 10 minutes while the car is warming up.
All in all, the Mex-5di is a top-notch cd player. If Sony came out with this same model tomorrow with a detach face, I would sell my Mex-5di and buy the new model. But as of right now, this cd player is hands-down the best on the market.

JVC KD-R300 30K Color-Illumination Single-DIN CD Receiver with Remote Control and J-Bus Expandability Review

JVC KD-R300 30K Color-Illumination Single-DIN CD Receiver with Remote Control and J-Bus Expandability
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This thing has more features than I'll ever use. It's expandable to work with bluetooth, HD radio, Satellite radio... I'll never use that stuff. Being able to fine-tune the colors and illumination is great. I burn MP3 CDs for this, and it reads them very well. The face is shiny and pleasing to the eye. The buttons are solid and responsive... not flimsy or clumsy at all. It puts out a decent amount of power for my 6 1/2" speakers. What I really like is the EQ. It comes with the typical presets - Rock, Pop, Jazz, Classical, Hip Hop... but it gives you the ability create your own. You can adjust the bass, mid, and hi levels, response, and even Q curve (look it up). Not necessarily as great as a 12-band pre-amp EQ, but pretty darn useful. This is a high quality unit.

JVC's KD-R300 CD Receiver is a great way to kick off a new system, featuring MP3/WMA playback, a front auxiliary input, wireless remote, a 50 watts x 4 MOSFET amplifier, and 3-band iEQ. CD and MP3/WMA Playback Enjoy your favorite CDs or burnt CD-R/RWs, or get more bang for your buck with MP3/WMA discs--burn hours of music to one disc and get ID3-TAG support for display of artist and song info.
AM/FM Radio with HS-IVi Tuner Sometimes you just want to listen to the radio. The KD-R300's AM/FM radio features automatic presetting of strongest signals and 6 presets for each band.
The HS-IVi tuner features higher sensitivity, thanks to three IF bandwidths (wide, middle and narrow). It also includes AM Noise Canceller plus upgraded IF filters that help avoid the distortion caused by interference from adjacent stations.
To get even more from the airwaves, add JVC optional hardware for HD Radio or SAT Radio reception.
Dial in Your Sound Perfect your sound with a three-band parametric equalizer and Loudness control for low level listening.
Input and Output A pair of preamp outputs (rear or subwoofer) is provided for adding a little extra power to the KD-R300's onboard 50W x 4 amplifier.

You can also stream music from a compatible digital audio player, for listening on your car stereo.
Ready for iPod You can listen to iPod music with an optional KS-PD100 adapter. The iPod can be controlled from the head unit, and song information is displayed with the same categories and layers as an iPod.

Pioneer DEH-P3000IB In-Dash CD/Mp3/Wma/iTunes AAC/Wav Receiver Review

Pioneer DEH-P3000IB In-Dash CD/Mp3/Wma/iTunes AAC/Wav Receiver
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Pioneer always has really great, high-end products. I was only slightly disappointed with this one. Whoever they have in their usability/user interface department, they need to fire them. The controls on this deck are absolutely counter-intuitive. I consider myself pretty much a gadget geek and computer nerd, so I'm usually able to figure out how to use things without reading the manual. However, I had to read the manual to figure out how to use it, which generally means it hasn't been designed very well. It's very difficult to navigate through the menus of the deck.
I would say whoever wrote their user manual should also be fired, since it's extremely confusing and hard to read. I still don't know how to change the clock on it.
Overall, it's a great upgrade. I miss my stock Honda one, but some of the buttons didn't work. Once you get the Pioneer deck installed, I suggest just using the included remote, as it's much easier.

The Pioneer DEH-P3000IB is a perfect receiver if you want all the basics. With a built-in MOSFET 50W x 4 amplifier, you'll get plenty of power along with the CD player, playback of MP3/AAC/WMA/WAV files from data CDs, an AM/FM radio, remote control, and auxiliary input for external devices. And when you're ready to expand, Pioneer has you covered with support for adding Bluetooth, iPod Direct Connection, Satellite Radio, CD changers, and more--not to mention two RCA preamp outs for growing your system. Start out right, and expand when you need it.

Detachable Faceplate The DEH-P3000IB features a detachable faceplate with a white on black one-line, 16-character LED display.
CD/MP3/WMA/AAC Playback In addition to CDs, enjoy playback of MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV audio files burned to CD, with ID3 tag support--title, artist, and album info will be scrolled across the display.
AM/FM Radio Always have your favorite stations at hand with six user presets per band.
Best Stations Memory Setting your radio presets can be a real pain while you're driving--especially if you're in an unfamiliar area. So, let the tuner do the work for you by activating the Best Stations Memory (BSM) function. The tuner will seek out the six strongest stations in the area and set them into the tuner presets.
7-Way Rotary Commander The 7-Way Rotary Commander is like a musical joystick: with one central dial, you can actually control 90% of the unit's functions and features. Scrolling through your MP3/WMA/AAC files and folders is now very easy. In addition, when controlling an iPod, the operation is easy to learn--it is similar in all respects to the actual iPod.
AUX-In Connection Use the built-in AUX input for connecting any portable digital player or other external auxiliary devices. For extra-convenient access, the DEH-P3000IB has this input on the front panel.
Full-Featured High Performance The DEH-P3000IB is intelligently designed to expand your system, customize your experience, and provide superior sound quality and easy operation.
Two RCA preouts for adding on external amps and speakers simplify system expansion.
Two-Way Crossover with separate High and Low Pass settings
Built-in MOSFET 50 W x 4 amplifier for excellent sound quality, minimal distortion and efficient power handling.
Supertuner IIID advanced analog and digital processing assure superior imaging, less distortion and noise, and stronger, smoother broadcast signal reception.

Wireless Remote A wireless remote is included for use while watching the road.
iPod Direct Connection (CD-I200 required) Connect an iPod to the DEH-P3000IB using the optional CD-I200 direct control cable, and you can control menus, shuffle function, songs, podcasts, and audiobook chapters in the iPod through the headunit interface as quickly and easily as you would on the iPod itself. Don't worry about your iPod battery running low on power--this direct connection also recharges the unit during playback. In addition, Pioneer has developed the following new features to make using your iPod in the car extremely easy and convenient:
Link Search--While listening to a specific artist, you can hold "List" button down and it will pop up folders containing that specific artist.
Passenger Control Mode--Allows passenger to use the iPod directly to browse and select music, while connected to the headunit for playback.
Random (Shuffle) Key--Physical Random Button on faceplate (Shuffle) makes it easy to hear something fresh.

Ready to Expand The DEH-P3000IB gives you all the basics, but there's plenty of room to grow. In addition to the iPod Direct feature, it's compatible with Pioneer's Bluetooth adapter, USB adapter, XM and Sirius satellite radio tuners, CD changer, and more. Start out small and add more features as you need them.

Pyle PL91MU AM/FM-MPX Electronic Tunning Radio with USB/SD/MMC Reader Review

Pyle PL91MU AM/FM-MPX Electronic Tunning Radio with USB/SD/MMC Reader
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am not a sound expert but I was looking for a simple car audio receiver that I could use a SD card with and did not have a CD. I installed it in my '98 BMW 525i to replace my unit that was stolen. Had to buy a BMW radio wire harness and antenna adapter to match up (extra $10). It is working perfectly. It matches the interior on my car perfectly.
Overall I am very pleased with the unit, no bells and whistles but more than adequate. Some minor complaints but I will survive. I am using a 2GB SD card and transferred all my favorite songs from my music collection onto it. I don't know what is the maximum size SD card that can be used. No more car clutter with CDs and CD cases. Just slide in the SD Card and instant music.
PROS:
1. Simple to use.
2. Excellent performance for a great price.
3. No need for CDs, CD scratches and sound skips when driving
4. Love the use of SD card and USB drive. I can change out and add songs whenever I want.
5. AM/FM Radio reception is good.
CONS:
1. Face plate is not removable so is an obvious theft target.
2. Cannot forward/reverse within a song. It starts all over or skips to next song.
3. On car restart the unit remembers the last song, but not the last location within the song, so you have to listen to it all over again.
4. No remote. I really wish it came with a remote. It does have a remote sensor on the face, which is weird.
Overall, I would recommend it to any non-audio freak who is not looking for all the bells and whistles.

Clarion CZ209 CD/MP3/WMA Receiver with iPod Control and USB Port Review

Clarion CZ209 CD/MP3/WMA Receiver with iPod Control and USB Port
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This stereo has made a wonderful replacment/upgrade to the factory CD player in my 2003 Subaru Outback wagon. It was very easy to install, thanks to the friendly staff at Crutchfield who can provide you with a wiring harness.
The standard AM/FM radio isa available, but I honestly never use it these days. The ability to play MP3 CDs is excellent, and I keep one in the stereo with some of our favorites, for days we forget to bring the thumb drive.
The AUX port is a great feature too, for those who have non-iPod MP3 players. iPods can be hooked up directly thru the USB.
It's the USB that makes this unit awesome. The port is on the back of the stereo in the form of a ~18" permanently attached USB cable, with a Type A Female connection on the end (perfect for pluggin in things like Thumb Drives).
We routed our USB cable to a compartment below the stereo that has a flip open door. Simply open the door, puul out the cable, lug in the thumb drive, stuff it back in the compartment, close the door and enjoy.
This stereo will take a few seconds (5-10) to read your MP3 CD / USB drive. Once it does, you are set to go. If you unplug the USB drive, and don't plug any different USB drives in, the next time you plug in that thumb drive, it will pick up playpack right were it left off. Nice feature.
We couldn't play music on our Sansa MP3 Player from the USB connection, but it may be something we are doing wrong. At any rate, thumb drives are cheap and smaller, and multi-purpose.
The stereo will play WMA, MP3, WAV, and possibly others? Those are the three formats I've tossed at it so far.
The display is okay. Easy read, but because it has to scroll the titles and other information across, it feels like you have to keep glancing down to read it as you drive.
Asides from an amazing price and all of the features I needed, this stereo appealed over the slightly more expenisive models in one major area: There are buttons on the head unit to navigate and otherwise manipulate the stereo. Sure it comes with a remote, and sure you lose potential screen space when you start cramming on buttons... BUT, as the person driving the car and using the stereo, you'll want the ability to quickly and easily execute each operation. The idea of a joystick style master knob appeals to my inner-geek, but it'd be too frustrating to operate.
Speaking of operating, this stereo is a breeze. I've yet to look in the manual.
So far I have only one gripe. Last night while driving home, the wife was trying to find a song. The process was: skip to next track. See the 2 second display of the track number, then see the title begin to scroll. About that time you're in about 3 - 5 seconds and are starting to realize what the song is, and that it's not the one you want. It'd be nice to be able to "browse" the songs and then select one for playing, instead of surfing through them. Maybe if I read the manual I'll find that feature?
All-in-all, this is an amazing unit. I wish I had bought into one of these a couple years ago (although the prices are great now).

Direct iPod control The USB input on the rear of the CX609 lets you connect your iPod directly without an expensive adapter. Just use your stock iPod cable, and you'll enjoy your favorite iPod tunes, along with complete control and battery charging of your iPod. The unit also supports title display for the tracks playing on your iPod.
Front Panel Auxiliary Input Connect MP3 players or other external audio devices in a snap with the 3.5mm front auxiliary input.
Easily Expand The CZ209 gives you a 50W x 4 built-in amplifier to begin with, along with two RCA preamp outputs to grow your system.

This is a very poorly designed product, all the way around. It has the cosmetic appearance of a very low-end electronic product. The cable from the remote to the base unit is bulky & short. Lousy design making it hard to install. The base unit is massive and hard to conceal under the dash. Power needs to come from your 12v accessory/cigarette lighter on the dash. Again, making it hard to conceal/install. To sum up.......Save Yourelf Plenty of Frustration, and AVOID this product.

I got this stereo for my wife's Jeep Liberty, a Valentine's day Gift. I did research for a week and This stereo have everything you can ask and you can't beat the price on Amazon under 120 bucks.
Here are some features I like.
Built-in HD Radio(R) Tuner: Don't buy stereo without HD Radio. Like TV, all radio stations across US are converting to digital FM. Digital transmission has better signal and it displays name of songs/bands/artists.
MP3/WMA Compatible: You can play mp3 CDs.
Front USB Port: You can directly plug flash drive into USB port and it plays mp3s from it. I no more have to burn CDs for few new songs. I just copy them in flash drive and play from it.
Front AUX-IN: I have Sansa Mp3 player and I connect to Aux-in sometimes. I can play all the music from my mp3 player to car stereo
Variable-Color Illumination: You can match the color of your car console to stereo display.
I like this stereo very much and would recommended it to anyone.

Discover how good radio can sound
HD Radio is a Digital technology that allows a radio station to transmit more information in the same radio wave, enabling higher quality sound and additional content. HD Radio technology makes AM Stations have FM Station-like sound quality, while FM Stations are broadcast with CD-like sound quality.
Unlike typical FM or AM transmission, HD Radio has crystal clear reception with low noise and no audio distortion.

More content, more listening options with Multicasting
Multicasting allows more channels to be accessed from your radio dial. HD Radio multicast channels can be listened to only by an HD Radio enabled stereo such as the KD-HDR50. These "Stations In Between the Stations" contain additional format options, music genre and talk radio options, and even experimental formats that have, until now, never been heard through other radio broadcast mediums.
HD Radio broadcasting is completely free of charge--there are no monthly plans or subscription costs for this unique and exciting content.
National coverage areas--HD Radio content is currently available in close to 200 major markets currently and rapidly expanding. For more information or to find HD Radio stations near you, log on to mobile.jvc.com or www.hdradio.com.

iTunes Tagging iTunes Tagging allows users to store or "tag" information about that song they are hearing on HD Radio and store it in their receiver. The tagged song information will transfer to their iPod/iPhone and be recalled in iTunes allowing them the option to purchase that song from the iTunes store. How it works:
When you hear a song you like on the radio, press the "TAG" key to save the information on the headunit.
Information is transferred to your iPod when you connect to the headunit.
Information is transferred to iTunes when you sync your iPod to your computer.
The song shows up on the "Tagged" playlist in iTunes.
Click on the button to purchase the song from the iTunes Store.
Enjoy the music!

Conventional Radio Of course, sometimes you'll want to tune into non-HD content, so you can also dial in standard AM/FM stations. Tune into your favorite stations instantly with 18 FM and 6 AM presets (all of which can be used for HD stations if you choose).
CDs and More The KD-HDR50 also features a CD player, which will play your favorite CDs and CD-R/RWs.
What's more, you can burn an MP3 or WMA disc and enjoy hours of audio complete with ID3 tagging for displaying track information.
USB Port Stream MP3/WMA files from USB thumb drives and other devices via the included USB port.
iPod Connectivity You can also operate your iPod via the USB port. Control your iPod/iPhone from either the player itself or from the receiver's controls, while allowing song and artist information display, play, pause, skip, or back commands from either device.
Input and Output Two pairs of preamp outputs are provided for system expansion if you want to add a little more power to the KD-HDR50's onboard 50W x 4 amplifier.
A 3.5mm front panel auxiliary input is also included for use with iPods, MP3 players, or other external audio devices.
Room to Grow The KD-HDR50's is a great system, but there's room to expand your options. Add JVC modules for Bluetooth, CD changers or SAT Radio to take your system to the next level.
Wireless Remote A full-featured wireless remote is include for controlling receiver functions.

Dual XD7500 AM/FM/CD Receiver, Motorized 4X50W, iPlug Review

Dual XD7500 AM/FM/CD Receiver, Motorized 4X50W, iPlug

The only real downside to this product, is no /mp3 playback from CD. However, it does come with an AUX 3.5mm adapter to plug your .mp3 player into so I guess that sort of makes up for it. The 2-way motorized face is really cool, but you know what they say about moving parts...
It also did not open/close correctly, I had to work it in a little, like the mechanism was fresh and just didn\\\'t want to budge. But after a day of helping it along, it works flawless now. It puts out great sound and overall is just fun to use and play around with.
I have it hooked up to 2 10\\\" JL W1 subs and 2 6\\\" Pheonix Gold door speakers through a Sony Xplod Amp.
A pretty decent product I got from Wal*Mart for $119.99 that can\\\'t be beat for the price, then again... with mobile audio you do get what you pay for!

PYLE PLD70BT 7-Inch TFT Touch Screen DVD/VCD/CD/MP3/CD-R/USB/AM/FM/RDS Receiver and Bluetooth System Review

PYLE PLD70BT 7-Inch TFT Touch Screen DVD/VCD/CD/MP3/CD-R/USB/AM/FM/RDS Receiver and Bluetooth System
Average Reviews:

I like this unit. Installed this unit in a 2001 Jeep Wrangler. The screen slightly covers the climate controls, but when the screen is tilted, they can be accessed easily. The sound quality is good, all the connectors are solid, and the bluetooth works great for both calls and music. Use this with your Smartphone and stream some Pandora, it sounds great. Picture quality is good, and the touch screen is responsive for a resistive touch screen.
The only complaint is that the screen will show some artifacts when it is really cold. Get the heat goning, and it looks fine once it warms up.
Great buy for the money!
