Terk FM-50 Indoor/Outdoor Dual-Drive Amplified FM Antenna (Terk FM50) Review

(More customer reviews)I have a Yamaha HTR-5750 receiver which I was using with a Radio Shack FM amplified antenna. I had tried various ways of improving my FM reception including the classic 300 ohm twin lead folded dipole antenna. The rabbit ear setup helped but still did not yield satisfactory results. I still had difficulties receiving some nearby FM stations that were considered moderate strength stations.
I installed the TERK FM-50 inside my home hiding it behind a curtain valance. I did use the amplifier mode and was able to receive all of the FM radio sources listed on the web at the "radio-locator" service, some as far away as 30 miles.I was able to receive all of the radio stations in stereo mode with no evidence of noise. Previously I was unable to receive some of the stations even in non-stereo mode and several of the stations had objectionable noise content in the stereo mode. The stations range from very strong to very weak. I was able to pull one station rated as very weak from 22 miles.
Given my experience, I would highly recommend the TERK FM-50. It was a very simple installation. Since the actual antenna is protected by an outside casing, I was able to use the assembly in contact with drapery material with no significant degradation in performance. I appreciated the technical performance of the antenna and my wife appreciated the fact that I was able to completely hide it.

(More customer reviews)Unless you're very picky about the sound of your music, this is not a bad little product for the money. It's sleek and seems solidly built, and fits nicely on my nightstand. It has an iPod player on top, which charges at it plays (all units don't necessarily charge while playing, I found out the hard way), a front usb input and CD player which plays just about any CD media you'd expect out of a unit like this (but is not a slot type). It also has a sleep timer, but only shows the clock (which has no backup battery) when the unit is off. When you are playing media, only the media type (without tags) is shown on the display. Mine doesn't seem to be backlit, so I cannot see the display at night...a minor inconvenience since I also have a separate alarm clock and only use the JVC to fall asleep by. The earphone and audio in jack are in the front, and there's an FM antenna input on the back. I don't get many FM channels since I'm not connected to an antenna, but even with my metal roof, two or three managed to come in clearly even so. The sound is not going to blow your socks off like a large unit, but for it's size, I think it's better than many shelf and/or portable units. There is no bass boost, to speak of. Although you can switch between rock, pop, classic, and jazz modes, I found them to be totally useless, and didn't percieve any change in sound no matter which mode was used. All in all, the sound seems pretty well balanced anyway, with no tinny sound whatever. I like a little extra bass, and this had plenty for my tastes. The remote is thick enough that you don't feel like it's going to break. If this little unit had bass and treble adjustment, and a clock with a back up battery which showed the time as well as the media type playing, I'd have given it five stars. I don't regret my choice for the money I spent, and even with it's flaws, I'd buy it again.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this Karaoke machine specifically because of the iPod docking feature. Once I received it, I found out it is only compatible with iPod Nano 2nd Generation, not the newer iPod Nano (which I will be receiving soon.) Also, the included microphone volume is so low, even when the volume is set the highest it will go, you can barely hear the vocalist over the music. We had to purchase our own better quality microphone to use with it. I would not purchase this again if I had the option.

Tech TalkCDG: An acronym for Compact Disc plus Graphics, this is a regular CD with information stored on a data track simultaneous to music. In laymen's terms, CDG has a video output for simple graphics (not full motion video). In the case of karaoke, the graphics function is used to store song lyrics, and display the lyrics in synch with the music. In most cases, CDG software displays lyrics, which change color as they are to be sung. A regular television is all that is required to display CDG lyrics.
Echo: Produced by creating minor controlled feedback in the singer's voice, echo adds depth and resonance. The echo function does not affect the music.
Auto Voice Control (AVC): This useful function is used primarily during practice sessions while a singer is learning a song. Please note that the AVC function only works with multiplex recordings and not with standard audio recordings.
Multiplex: A Multiplex allows you to separate the vocals and music by using the balance control on your Singing Machine Karaoke System.

(More customer reviews)We have used this unit in Chicago, Los Angeles, and on road trips. It works well, so long as you can find a clear channel. The unit works best when it is set to the middle channel of three clear channels in a row, so that the transmitter has a clear channel on either side of it. That's pretty hard to find in a major metropolitan area, so performance sometimes suffers. On rural highways (where we use it the most) clear channels are much easier to find, and performance is much better.

Zune Dock Review

(More customer reviews)I received this item as a gift and, out of the box, it is little more than a sleek decorative puck. In other words, the dock does not include *any* cables, not even the Zune sync cable. Oh, it will hold the Zune upright though. It will also hold the Zune remote (sold *separately*.)
Once I collected the cables I needed (sync, plus either A/V or 3.5 to 3.5) the dock is working fine. I have nothing against the product, I just wish it came with at least the basic accessories out of the box.

Memorex MI7805P Party Cube CD Sound System for iPod and iPhone (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)The Memorex Party Cube is a docking boombox designed to pair up with a range of Apple iPod and iPhone products. It also offers its own built-in CD and AM/FM tuner sources. Its compact design, sturdy build and rechargeable battery make it a great option for bringing your music on-the-go. It also provides lots of sound thanks to its multi-directional speaker array, although the range of frequencies (especially low-end) is limited.
The Party Cube is roughly the size of a four-slice toaster and easy to carry thanks to its folding handle. It is made from heavy-duty plastic that feels like it would stand up to lots of jostling with minimal scratches and scuffs. The bottom of the unit is slightly rubberized for some grip - this would be useful for keeping it in place while in motion on boats and RVs. A very nice feature is that it carries its own built-in rechargeable Lithium Ion batteries, which means that it should hold a charge even if it's been shelved for some time. This feature further suits the Party Cube for on-the-fly use whenever you're heading out to the park or the beach.
The controls are simple and straightforward (play/pause/stop/track/skip/etc.), but in order to accommodate the variety of Apple products that it can dock with, there are some clear omissions. For example, when docking my iPod, I was surprised to see that there is no means for navigating the menus or selecting albums/playlists. In order to do so, you have to use the actual controls on the face of the iPod. The Party Cube does come with an adjustable backing behind the dock so that you can press the portable's buttons without worrying about bending the connection pins. I was surprised to see that the Party Cube did not come with any sort of remote control, which should have been included in order to get the most utility out of its strengths.
Soundwise, the Party Cube provided a mixed bag: it is plenty loud and easy to hear in all directions, but sound quality was not terribly impressive. The omnidirectional array of speakers makes it great for picnics or grilling on the deck - wherever you place it, everyone is hearing the same sound. Treble was not quite tinny but definitely a bit flat; bass was virtually non-existent due to the small size of the speaker cones. However, the Party Cube does provide a lot of amplification power, making it very well-suited to outdoor use. Assuming that you're not looking for perfect fidelity when using the Party Cube, the deficiencies in sound quality are an acceptable trade-off for the size of the unit.

(More customer reviews)I've tried other FM transmitter products and this one is the best one I've used so far. Very powerful transmitter. I haven't had any problems receiving the signal in any parts of my house. Luckily, I was able to find one frequency that the product can transmit on that was not near a commercial broadcast. Using the other frequencies with the product resulted in too much interference by the commercial broadcasts and I couldn't get a clean sound. If you live in a metropolitan area, make sure that you don't get a strong radio signal on all 7 frequencies, otherwise you're SOL. But if there's no interference, this is a great poroduct.
