(More customer reviews)I wanted a CD/Cassette player for my Chevy truck. Yup, you know if you're a GM or Chrysler owner, there's not much out there in 1.5 DIN and who wants a 1.0 DIN with faceplate surround?
First major complaint: the CD skips like crazy from the slightest bump, even on slightly rough freeways.
Second complaint: too bright, can't turn down the lights on the face at night and it is very distracting.
What's happened to Jensen? They used to make a good product.
I'm looking for a replacement but so far nothing's out there.

Sony CMTHP7 Executive Microsystem Review

(More customer reviews)I chose this system over the Panasonic SC-PM18/28 models because you can upgrade the speakers later on if necessary; the Panasonic speakers are bi-amped so you can't put normal speakers in, and of course the speakers are where these minisystems really cut a lot of corners, almost as bad as factory car speakers. Phillips used to make some really nice microsystems (MC-50 and MC-70) but for some reason they discontinued them and now they just make these gimmicky, hideous eyesores that look like they were designed by 13 year old crackheads (MC-570, and especially the FWC series). This Sony was the only one I found that not only looks clean/simple/elegant but also has decent sound-clarity for my musical needs (jazz, classical, vocal/accoustic rock), though of course not quite audiophile-quality.
Two days later, am quite happy with my purchase. The Sony was really easy to set up out of the box, and sounds good at high volumes, as long as you keep the EQ on "Flat" or anything except "Rock"---that setting always creates an audible hiss/buzz. The "Groove" setting gives you a nice bass boost at low to moderate volumes but distorts the highs and mids as soon as you turn it up. The "Surround" setting doesn't seem to make that much of a difference for most music, but it's a nice option just to have. I should add that these sound settings are not retained in memory each time you switch music sources or turn the system off/on. The FM tuner gets good reception, especially with the included plug-in antenna, and has far more presets than I would ever actually need.
I like the fact that the cassette has auto-reverse although no music search; the sliding door is a nice feature, since push-button-pop-up doors often have mechanical problems later on. Just wished it could read my chrome and metal tapes too; also, there is no tape counter.
The only thing that worries me about this system is the slide-into-slot 5-CD player. This mechanism is not only slow but probably has a lot more moving parts than the usual slide-out-tray or carousel mechanisms. Probably should've bought the extended service warranty on this, but will keep my fingers crossed.
Something else that could be improved is the remote, which is pretty comprehensive but not intuitively laid out at all. I also wish this system had a subwoofer output and an aux output so I could connect my PC to it.
Other than that, it's a beautiful-looking stereo with quality sound.

Sony MHCEC98Pi Mini Hi-Fi Shelf System with Digital Media Port and 530-Watts RMS (Silver) Review

(More customer reviews)I did not purchase this from Amazon, but I wanted to write a review anyway. I have been looking everywhere for a stereo system that has clear sound, great bass, an iPod hookup and cd changer. If it had a cassette deck, that would be even better, but I could deal without one. I really liked the idea of an extra subwoofer. I wasn't going to purchase this system because it only has a 1 disc tray for cd's, but I figured that's where the iPod comes in for continuous music, and I should at least try it. Needless to say, I bought this stereo and hooked it up immediately (set up was a piece of cake).
I was immediately disappointed when the wires for my speakers were extremely short. Maybe only about 3 1/2 feet long. I like to spread out my system a little so I can get the best sound. Now, I'm not talking about placing speakers all around the room - they wouldn't even extend to the edges of my entertainment center.
The worst part of all, and the main reason why I am returning this system, is the sound is muffled. Even when I changed the preset EQ settings, the only one I was somewhat happy with was the "MP3 SURROUND"... but it still muffled my music. I could barely hear "s" sounds in the vocals... when I could, they sounded more like an "f". I should say, I am also very picky when it comes to electronics, but when I'm spending $200 + dollars, I think it's allowed! All I am asking for is crisp sound.
So, here are my pros to the system:
--Very nice looking stereo system
--DSGX feature really boosts the sound, along with the subwoofer
--LOVE the included iPod dock, which also charges
--7 different EQ settings for sound (my old stereo had 4)
--530 watts for loud sound
My cons, which severely outweigh the pros for me:
--Muffled sound. Vocals and music bits are not clear at ALL
--1 CD playing capability
--Wires and chords aren't long enough to spread out components to my liking
--Expensive for the things it is lacking
Hopefully this review will be helpful - I wish I had one that was this detailed when I was looking. Mind you, everyone has their own taste.
I would not recommend this system to anyone who is looking for crisp, clear sound. But if you like a nice strong bass and a lot of power... you may want to take a look.

Sony WMFX465 Walkman Review

(More customer reviews)After much, and I mean MUCH, reviewing of FM transmitters for my Sansa I decided on Eforcity because of the price and features. What I see as a necessity in an FM transmitter is this: First, the ability to choose any station - a must especially if you live in the city so you can choose a station that is not being used. Some of the other more expensive transmitters gave you the option of only choosing 6 frequencies. If they're occupied or even slightly occupied you will not get a very clear signal and your FM transmitter will have to compete with that signal already being broadcast. This model has the ability to search up or down to find a frequency that works best. Second, multiple power sources - This model came with both a car power adapter and will also run on one AAA battery. What I like about this is that I can broadcast my mp3 signal over any digital radio anywhere. This comes in handy at home or when I'm at a friend's house and want them to listen to a cool new song on my mp3 player. It has a pretty decent range also. I tried it at home from about 20 feet away from the radio and had no problems. What's cool about this is that you could have a radio tuned to your frequency in different rooms and walk around your house and hear your music from your mp3 player. Yeah, I know I'm getting off track. Anyway, it's a great find at a great price. I didn't have any problems with Eforcity either. It took about a week and a half to ship however. But worth the wait.

Philips MC235B Flat Wall Mountable Micro Shelf System (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I just picked this up and it's a very nice shelf system. It's not going to shake the walls at high volume, but if you were looking for that much power, you wouldn't be looking at a shelf system to begin with. The true test of quality sound comes at the lower end of the volume knob. Here is where this unit excels. No hissing or crackling noise and the bass is rich and pure and sounds dynamite. I played a burn job from mp3 files and I was stunned at just how good this unit really does sound! Mind you, this system does have a wee bit more power than comparable units, so you can crank the volume up loud enough for most people's tastes and there is no sound distortion at the high end, either. It's also pretty easy to mount on the wall, if so desired. It does come with a stand, which suffices well enough, if you don't feel like drilling into your walls. I only have one complaint and it's a minor one. While the speakers attach to the unit as seen in the pic, Philips should have also enabled you to be able to mount the speakers onto a wall, apart from the unit, to achieve a much better stereo sound. I have a speaker on the nightstand on each side of the bed and when I lie down to relax with some good tunes, it sounds simply fantastic. So, sound like a good deal? It is, and for a great price, too! Just make sure you have some extra speaker wire handy, as there's not that much attached to each speaker to begin with. Trust me on this. For the price being asked, in my opinion, sound byte for sound byte, this is one of the best shelf units out there. I listened to a lot of small systems in the up to and a little above the one hundred and fifty level and this system won hands down every time. A nice added bonus feature is that it was also the most eye appealing, too!

The one I purchased mangled the first cassette I put in (an irreplaceable one - how could I have been so silly as to put it in without testing the player?). In any case, this product really is a piece of junk. But then, you get what you pay for.

(More customer reviews)Purchased it to use on job sites; didn't need anything too fancy, the smaller size is what attracted me. The cassette feature along with CD seemed like a nice bonus.
However, after one week the CD Player would not play a disc, instead read "no disc" even when one was inserted. I later have read where this is a common failure with this unit. I returned it and tried another, but this one gave the "no disc" error right out of the box. Very disappointing product from Sony.
I ended up returning it and got something else entirely. Don't waste your time on this product.

Sharp 200 Watt iPod® Docking Station - Black/Silver (CDDH899N) Review

(More customer reviews)The Sharp CD-DH899N has ok functionality but the speakers that come with it are terrible. They had high-end distortion even at low-moderate volume. This was the case with all the functions - CD, radio, tape, line-in and iPod. Thank goodness the speakers are not hard-wired in! I swapped them out with various other old speakers, and my best set was 15-year old Sony speakers with good speaker wire, which were 8 Ohm and had plenty of power handling. (The original speakers were 4 Ohm with thin wires.) That cleared up the distortion, although I have not tried cranking it yet. Why did Sharp design speakers that can't handle the signal??? The stereo itself works as advertised. Note that the cassette deck does not have a record function, only play. Also, there are no audio inputs to the stereo except a line-in. No audio outputs either, only the speakers. The CD tray is very flimsy, the tape deck is a little clunky, I kinda wish an extended warranty was available. I got this new on e-bay for a great prices, so it's an ok unit for a bedroom for the price, but do not buy this unless you have some good speakers to swap out!
